The Lionel North Pole Central GP-35 is another “One off” by Lionel that deserves a re-issue. The GP-35 is small enough to run on the tightest curves but big enough to have a solid diesel look. The North Pole Central came in 3 road numbers (2525, 2512 and 2513) which might appear to signal a commitment to future support of this livery. No other Christmas train that I can remember even came in 2 road numbers. In any case, the NPC GP-35 is a historical footnote in the Lionel Christmas story.
What do you think? Does this locomotive deserve a re-issue?

Emile, we have some very similar tastes. I too have all three of these GP-35's, and they'll be making their maiden voyage on my layout this Christmas. It'll be nice opening some train boxes WITHOUT spending any new money for them!!! I would love to see Lionel bolster their commitment to these Christmas-themed liveries, with a more steady one or two offerings each year per livery. But as I mentioned over in the Polar RR SD80MAC thread, I don't think we'll see that. Lionel seems to have a "once and done" attitude with these Christmas offerings with only a random and unpredictable -- almost catch-as-catch-can -- attitude of follow-on offerings. The only re-issue exception I can recall off the top of my head was the re-issued Polar Express scale Berk #1225.... which I think went close to 10 years before being re-issued.

MTH on the other hand has at least a half dozen recurring Christmas Train offerings, with freight, passenger and specialty display type flat cars. When you include the MTH LED Christmas cars in the conversation, it's hard not to say that MTH is the dominant Christmas presence in our hobby.
