I'm looking for some Amtrak passenger cars this coming year, thats it besides some rolling stock I have on order. Possible engines depending what Lionel decides to include in their next catalog. What is on your radar for train purchases this coming year...

I’ve got no purchases planned for 2023 but that means nothing! I’m actually cutting back on spending right now. Need to get through the kids college years, winter and this inflation situation. Heating oil and electricity has doubled in our area and I don’t see that easing anytime soon.
Any new purchases will be offset by selling lesser used items.

Hopefully 2023 will be a breather year for me. I have so much I am trying to sit on the side lines this year. I kinda know that is very wishful thinking.

I am looking for the MTH Christmas Train that Emile used in his Epic Christmas Video VI.

Like some of you have already stated, I'm also hoping 2023 to be a year where I can just sit on the sidelines when new products are announced. I'll admit I've pre-ordered a few goodies -- mostly dealer special-runs -- that were announced in 2022 but are scheduled for delivery in 2023. So those should be more than enough to grab my interest as the year progresses.
The new Lionel catalog is rumored to be due out in a couple of weeks. And quite frankly, the only jewel that MIGHT call my name would be a Legacy GM Train-of-Tomorrow. Lionel released a 6464-sized GMTOT boxcar this year. And when I saw that, it got me thinking... can the full train be just around the corner. Lionel Legacy Railsounds are top-notch in every way, and having a choice of whistles has stepped up the game. Gone is the awful sick-cow F3/F7/F9 whistle of years passed. And the new F-series sounds with SuperBass B-units are spectacular. So if Lionel builds a GM Train-of-Tomorrow, I'll buy it. But that's really it for me in terms of a potential purchase of newly announced products. The 2022 pre-orders will have to suffice. And truth be told... so many of us now have more trains than we'll EVER be able to fully enjoy.
Not to nag on a soar subject to some people... but the prices have simply gotten way, WAY out of hand. In December 2022 alone, I could have EASILY spent over $10K in product that Lionel recently delivered. And that's simply absurd. Think about it... their Vision Line Class A came in at $1,900. And the F-series offerings in an ABA configuration would set you back roughly $1,500 for two powered AA units and a SuperBass B-unit. Another $500 more if you opted for a matching powered B-unit. I did get the uniquely colored Aberdeen Carolina & Western F9 AB offering. And I'd LOVE to have purchased the Reading Northern, Lehigh Valley, and yellow war bonnet Santa Fe's as well. But we ALL have our limits. I even passed on the brass hybrid steamers that are due any day now, as that would have taken another $2K out of my wallet. Sigh....
Gosh... I can remember like it was yesterday, when Charles Ro Supply had a volume-purchase product credit that kicked in at year-end if you spent $5K FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. And now a die-hard enthusiast can spend TWICE that in just ONE MONTH!!! Total insanity. But it is what it is.
Happy New Year, everyone!!!

Happy New Year everyone!!!
I have nothing on order or do I plan to. I do have a few special run cars coming but that's it. Maybe a second hand jewel will catch my eye or not.

There is nothing that I need however I would like one or two FEC diesels and a few more contemporary era freight cars. If I see something New York Central at a train show I will be tempted.

Nothing new strikes me as gotta have. I might be interested in a F3 SF Freight colored Blue/Yellow set even used if price is affordable. At present, Lionel has priced me out of their realm.

If I buy anything new it will be MTH or Menards. I might buy Lionel used at a train show but new Lionel is way too expensive for me.

Now that my layout is getting close to being in decent shape, and that most of my equipment is/ will be repaired, I could think about some a new steamer and a new diesel (these would be Lionel post war). However, I don't think I will spend the money, - just think about what they would be, and handle them at York in April if I go. Alfred

I won't be buying any of the new offerings that's for sure! I will keep filling the holes in my Postwar Lionel collection, there are about 20 very scarce, un-cataloged items, like the 2347 C&O Geep, that I still don't have. I'll likely buy more Postwar Lionel or Märklin HO collections. There are a LOT of very high quality trains coming to market (Auctions, eBay, train meets) nowadays. The prices have been falling making these wonderful trains affordable again.

I’ll be playing catch up on repairs and will not likely spend on trains; but I may purchase an accessory. If I had the flexibility to make a engine purchase, it would be the post war Lionel 2321 Lackawanna FM Trainmaster. For the time being, I can think about the engine and what new passenger set that I would run with it. Alfred

I have a purchase pending I'm buying it from I Love Toy Trains the store. Since I'm friends with the family they are letting me make payments. I won't reveal what it is until I bring it home.

As always I never plan on what I'm going to get at any time. I read the catalogs and the custom announcements and then I just let The Voices tell me what I need. The Voices counsel me, they understand, they talk to me. They tell me things that I should buy, they show me things to show to you when they talk to me.
So far I just have some preorders that will bleed into 2023 from last year. The Lionel Legacy Strasburg 2-10-0 #90, a locomotive I've been hoping for for 35 years! (after a hard gulp at the price). And a few custom MTH and Atlas O freight cars from Mr.Muffin, the TCA and the TCA METCA Division.
I'm also going to order an Amtrak and Surfliner Charger locomotives from 3Rd rail. I was hoping to see these with Legacy or DCS but I'll be fine with the TMCC in a 3Rd Rail engine.
I'll always look at future offerings but my desires have mostly been filled, except for two or three locomotives from the past that I may pick up if the time is right when I find them. I will survive without them though. I'll be spending more on layout materials and scenery items as my layout progresses this year.
But The Voices are always present!
