Neither the wonderful Polar Express movie nor the book that the movie was based upon made any reference to a North Pole Train Station. Rather, the train pulled in close to the Center of the North Pole where the children disembarked to meet Santa. The author or film directors could not possibly percieve that more than one train would visit the North Pole. Lionel changed all of that with the 10th Anniversary Gold Edition Polar Express train, and we took it a step further by introducing the Silver Edition Berkshire with and our custom passenger cars. Now, we had three trains serving our North Pole, certainly not something that a single track system could adequately handle. Our North Pole design engineers came up with the idea of introducing a train station. They selected a Lionel aluminum version of the Rico Station and authorized a complete do-over. That, with many platforms added that can serve with ease all of the passengers that could arrive with three train loads of children.
All right, we did take liberties with the story, but if anything, we think we improved it.

The Aluminum Rico Station is hard to find and looks beautiful on your layout. Excellent choice. Emile

That is one impressive station, and one I would expect seeing at the North Pole. Excellent

We learned many lessons from our last layout build. Was it good, we think yes, but we did recognize that it could be made so much better. We wanted much better use of space while keeping the same basic layout design. The idea of a train station was born and it has made a big difference in better space utilization.
After a year and a half of having fun with our new version of the Polar Express, we would not change a thing. I guess we learned our lessons from the first build very well.
