Of course if I lived many hundreds of miles away I would not have been to York all those times I have. Maybe a few times but not every year I have done. I would like to go to the Amherst show at least one time, I better hurry I'm not getting any younger.

I have done the things, that have been mentioned, Made a dinner once to experience that and now PHoto chopping means dont have to actually be there, hahah!!!. Anyway, Alaska , and CP Rail. Just not the big draw/ or retained inventory by vendors. !!! and IF anybody here acquired the ALASKA FLAT with Helicopter, from MENARDS we can strike a deal online !!!

I've noticed a drop in attendance over the years. Last time I was there it was pretty low. There seemed to be more people in the dealer halls, but even then it was below normal.
A lot of dealers were not there either. They combined the two dealer halls because there wasn't enough dealers and there were still empty tables.
I was disappointed because the company I by my light bulbs from was not there. Sales were down for TM Book/Video. We brought back a lot of unsold videos.
Hopefully I can be the for the spring show.

I'm only missing the upcoming York Meet because of family obligations, which are usually tossed aside for York. But this one is special and it'll be fun hanging out with family. To make up for it I'll buy a few things online and we're going on a tourist train ride and have a beer or six.
I'm actually more apathetic about fishing. Every time I ever went fishing it was a disaster. I don't even know why I ever went fishing. I don't even like eating fish! One time when I was a young kid the recreation department was stocking the local public swimming pool with fish (it was after swimming season). I decided to use bologna for my bait. Why, you ask? Because I liked bologna so the fish must like it too! You could see the fish in the clear pool water and I didn't even catch a cold! Other kids using conventional bait were pulling fish out left and right! I guess fish don't like bologna after all!
Another time I went fishing with my dad, uncle and cousin under the Long Beach Island, N.J. causeway. We weren't there 5 minutes when my cousin decided to cast his line sideways, striking me in the head with the lead weight and stuck the hook in my head. Off to the emergency room we went for a tetanus shot.
Years later while fishing in Great Bay off of Atlantic City with a different uncle and my Grandfather, something was really tugging on my line. As I reeled it in, and grabbing the line to pull harder, genius like, up came a Bull Shark that almost took off my hand. That was my last and final fishing expedition. Twenty years later as my Grandfather was dying, he told me to make sure I get the fishing poles after he was gone. I hadn't used or even seen them since the shark incident, but I still have them all wrapped up in an old cloth just as he left them.
I've only missed two York Meets since 1998. Both times for family things. I went kicking and screaming as I love being at the Meet. Just being around all the trains, getting layout ideas, meeting the manufacturers and distant hobby shop owners and staff, most of whom were happy to see me (or my wallet). Getting together with friends, relatives and forum members who have become friends and family. Then meeting up with people for meals and good times before and after Meet hours. Stopping to chat for a few minutes with new and old friends in the Halls, sitting down for a while with friends or complete strangers for hot dogs and a Pepsi and talking about trains and purchases and items they hope to find. And the thrill of finding that special locomotive or rolling stock or accessory. Or none at all. The whole experience is like a week long party!!
I have brought home something a majority of the Meets I've attended. I've always had a great time whether I lived an hour away by car or five hours by plane and hour plus drive to the hotel. If you love this hobby, the York Meet is a magical place. It's my Disney World, beach vacation and Christmas morning all wrapped up in one!!
I'll see everyone in April, God willing!

Enjoyed you comment above and I can agree, although I usually caught something when I went. As for York I totally agree except make it a 7Up!

I always wanted to go but never fit it in my schedule. I enjoyed Trainfest at the New Jersey Highrailers and the Ameherst Train show in MA. I got my train fix and got to see friends.

I've been to 5 Yorks traveling from Utah, and each one has been worth the trip. Won't make this Falls, but I did register and have badges - health just didn't work out to make it next week.
Those who haven't been - GO ATLEAST ONCE! Those going next week - Have a great time.

Several times I've been apathetic about attending York. There are friends there that I hang with...and acquaintances like Don Klose or Ben Fiorelo (sp) that I like running into and chit chat. Also...after about 10 seconds of going into ANY hall, the joy of being at a huge train show....then later a dinner and more tomfoolery really makes it all worth the trip. I admit my drive is relatively short from Frederick Md...but I can't help that bit of luck.

Apathetic about York, that’s heresy.
