Currently I have a problem with my 70’ Lionel blue comet passenger cars that I am trying to 2 rail. I changed the wheels but they keep shorting out since the studs holding them are metal. Any suggestions?

Welcome to OGF. I don’t have direct experience with these cars. You may want to check continuity / the wiring of truck collectors. I am not sure of anything else to recommend, as I am not sure of other details/symptoms of the problem. Someone else may have more experience. Alfred

Typically for 3-rail trucks there is a insulator between the truck and the middle pickup. The middle rail is the hot while the wheels are the ground, so you need to separate them. I’m a pinch I have used small pieces of the rigid plastic that you get from product packaging to make insulators.
