What do you do with leftover parts? In my case, I had some initial circuits with a 20ma LED power supply, diode and cap. I also have a lot of LED strip... so I just decided to add a 470 ohm resistor and use three LEDs to light my Polar Express Hero Boy Home. I removed the tiny screw in bulb and socket. If anyone needs one, let me know. I'm waiting for the glue gun to warm up so I can button her up.

That's a great idea... in my case its finding the AC/DC conversion board with LED diode and cap... you can never have enough of these. Then Roy from Royz Trainz told me he had a solution, I was all ears. Roy is from Traverse City Michigan and also has a booth at York... a super guy and does great ERR upgrades for 3rd Rail. This little boards fit everywhere; buildings, passenger cars, caboose, and other layouts... I bought a handful for my next project...

And here is the result. Better than the original. Now, all we have to do is keep old Clark Griswold at bay...

Thanks Brian! I felt kind of silly using a capacitor on a stationary building... but I wasn't about to resolder a bunch of components that cost-wise MIGHT add up to a quarter.

I can see using these for passcars but for structures, it's much more cost effective to make your own. Geeez, listen to me! You would have thought I was born during the depression!

Can you enlighten us how to make our own? I'm a ME so all the EE stuff is learn as I go!

Nice job and good use of spare parts to make an existing product better!

Can you enlighten us how to make our own? I'm a ME so all the EE stuff is learn as I go! Here's a parts list: 1 22uH Choke (to make everything DCS compliant) 1 IN4003 Diode. 1 220uF or 470uF capacitor. Note: depends upon application... 470uF for most passenger cars, don't need one for structures 1 Supertex CL2N3-G Fixed current LED Driver, 20ma 1 470 Ohm 1/4w resistor (also have on hand some 200, 150 and 100 ohm to play with brightness 1 LED Strip Roll, 2700K to 3100K color. Circuit builds like this: Car+>Choke>Diode>Cap>LED Driver>+LED Strip. Car- to Cap-, Cap- to -LED Strip You can also get away with this setup for silhouette cars... they will just be brighter as the current is regulated by the resistor only: 22uH Choke IN4003 Diode 470uF cap 470 ohm 1/4w resistor 1 LED Strip Roll, 2700K to 3100K color. Car+>choke>diode (gray band faces cap+)>Cap+>resistor>LED Strip+ Cap ->LED Strip-. Cap->Car-

Gee Clark. You didn't have to do all of that just for us.

Nice - do you order your circuits from Mouser?

Nice - do you order your circuits from Mouser? I get most of my components from eBay. Mouser drives me insane with all the specific choices and specs. I'm building LEDs not a rocket guidance system.

Thanks Joe. LEDs save so much power I retrofit them wherever I can.
