It will be interesting to learn the breakdown of what our members have in terms of the age of their train equipment.

My tastes and purchases reflect the high spot for new equipment, 2000-2014.

Most of what I have is fairly new. Probably about 65% from the last 5-ish years and the rest from a variety of prior years.

Most of my trains were manufactured from 2015 to the present.

All of my trains are from 2016 to present. I only started my layout in February of 2014 at Nicholas Smith Trains. Started with S scale Lionel.

Tough poll to answer. I'm sure many have stuff from across several of the various "eras." I have roughly equal postwar and recent modern. Very little MPC, nothing from say 1990 until 2005.

My locos/engines, rolling stock, passenger cars, accessories, O22 switches, and transformers are Lionel. Everything is pre-1960, except for two cars from 1962. The earliest loco is from 1946. At this point, a small number of items are from my childhood. The majority now was acquired since about 2005. I am used to the post-war era equipment, and I just like to operate it. Alfred

I think that I probably bridge the two most recent categories although most of what I run is from the later one. I have nothing postwar or pre-command control except for a couple of items that have been given to me.
Given Lionel’s decision about supporting (or not supporting in fact) TMCC and early Legacy components, the dividing line for me has become 2011. I think that everything I run on a regular basis is later than that.

In my collection there is not much equipment newer than about 2000. Will still buy rolling stock but avoid everything TMCC, DCS or Legacy. Decided to keep it simple years ago for reliability so I can just turn the ZW levers anytime and see the trains run. The only more modern stuff has to be the scale signals and the sensors used to activate them. My collection is mostly Lionel P/W, MPC, LLC/Kuhn era, with MPC, K-Line and MTH rolling stock and accessories.

That is a very nice approach and something I thought I would do when I got back into it a few years ago. But my high tech background drew me to the new command control tech and I am hooked. DCS is my poison of choice.

DCS is my poison of choice. I worked in the high tech semiconductor industry, fully embrace new modern technology but only when convinced that the items purchased offer quality and long term reliability. Nothing against DCS, TMCC and Legacy; it just doesn't fit the formula for what was needed to be achieved on this end.

Most of my traditional rolling stock and Engines 2014 and earlier, most of my scale rolling stock and engines 2015 and later. Not sure what I have more of right now.

Most of my of my rolling stock is 2015 on up to present day. But I don't stick to any era. If I like it I buy it. The only thing I have stopped buying is all the fantasy stuff. If I don't see it rolling down the rails I stay away.
