To our members and guests, the NABCC was recently challenged by decisions made by the management of Brooklin Models who significantly downgraded our Club status. These changes were posted to social media by Brooklin management through a video and public statements. Like you all, we had no advanced notice. Apparently, this was Brooklin’s method and response to necessary changes the NABCC had to make to protect our legal, non-profit, and tax status. Their company, their choice to make any decisions as they see fit. However, some decisions like this one can come with consequences and with an appropriately proportioned response.
We are a very resilient Club and will adjust to protect the future of the NABCC. We have therefore made two changes. Effective immediately, we have suspended all relations with the management of Brooklin Models until such time as they re-establish a level playing field for both clubs. Next, our pipeline (6 new Projects) for all our new Brooklin Models initiatives has been emptied, again until such time as we are treated as equals. Brooklin Models has chosen to send us their message publicly and in return, they now have our response, maybe something they were not banking on. The NABCC will most assuredly operate totally independent as it must to protect our Club’s legal status without being placed in an untenable position of having a member of Brooklin management in a leadership position or else. No win for anybody here but our moves are quite necessary to ensure our future. We will now be a little different, but most likely, a whole lot stronger. The 1:43 scale market has changed dramatically from what it was five or ten years ago, and we are now so much better positioned to take advantage of these changes.
If anyone needs further clarification of what we are up against, Brooklin Models recently announced that they are participating in a Concours/Car Show event on our home territory. If an attendee goes for it all, the cost, around $1,000 and that does not include travel, lodging and food costs. Just to walk around for one day, how about over $ 60.00. We asked Brooklin management if they would be promoting us at their table. The answer, NO, if we wanted representation, we should purchase a table. This sums up our relationship pretty well. We will not be attending this event as a Club as we see it as a poor opportunity for a return on investment. Probably not a good target market for us based upon the overall costs for attendees. As good businesspeople, ROI is important to us.
There is an active secondary market for Brooklin Models and the NABCC focus will be there along with stories and interests our members would like to share about Brooklin Model collecting. No change for us here.
We will continue to support our Facebook Group and keep you current on all future NABCC activities. We have reached out to our NABCC members privately with a more detailed explanation. Additionally, we invite you all to now go to the Facebook Group for our newest OGF Foundation Club, Classic One Forty Three (C143). Two All-new models with all-new tooling are featured. Membership in the NABCC also gives you dual membership in C143.
