I am glad to hear of the consists that are being run. I have not run anything for months. My old layout is almost dismantled in the old house , the train room I have in the new house is configured as a temporary shop as I build a doll house for my granddaughter. I thought I would have floor space and time to lay out some tracks on the floor; but, that is not the case. I have my two main transformers on the control stand - when I come in the room they call out "remember us?" - they are so forelorn. I can't wait to start up again. Alfred

...as I build a doll house for my granddaughter. I don't have any grandchildren yet, but building a doll house is on the bucket list if any arrive before I have six feet of dirt on top of me. I've got a great set of plans here for a NYC-style brownstone...even has a working dumbwaiter. Looks like a great project. A friend of mine dropped this off the other day, found in the bottom of a box of old door lock-sets/hardware at The Restore (purchased the whole box for five bucks): Haven't had it on the tracks yet, nor a chance to research it, but the Lionel marking on the underside of the plastic pilot looks like MPC era. It appears to be complete except for a broken marker lamp and the lack of a tender (why does everything have a broken marker lamp, aargh).

Adam, thanks for asking. We started living in the new place about 3 weeks ago. There are many small items to take care of here; however, there is a 30-year mess to take care of in the old place. Hopefully, we will be ready to be done with it sometime before early March. When the doll house is finished, I will clear the room of tools, etc. and break down an put some tracks on the floor. I can't bring myself to start the benchwork until all the house matters are taken care of. It's driving me crazy. At this point, I'd rather be a kid, and forget about being a responsible adult. A buddy of mine told me that the 8310 was offered by MPC as the front-end of a set sold by Sears. It looks like it's based on the postwar 1615 switcher. I'm tempted to ditch the plastic pilot and truck and see if the steamchest of a 1615 fits it. If so, then it could be an easy task to return it to 0-4-0 configuration with replacement of the running gear...maybe.

Basement-layout excavation continues; this MTH B&M Doodlebug has been sitting in the back on an unpowered siding for some 4-5 years (at least). I had low expectations that it would be functional, but it fired right up when I put some power to the track: I had to let it sit at idle with 50% of the throttle for five minutes or so before the battery had enough charge to let it move. It ran well, all lights worked, and the sound was not garbled as I had last recalled. I'll probably run it a bit today, get the battery fully charged, then wipe it down (it's gotten terribly dirty) and pack it away. Gonna try the Railking GS-4 Bantam next; fingers crossed.

healey36, great for the doodlebug; best wishes for the Phantom. Keep us updated. Alfred Well, the Bantam fired right up, so I'm two-for-two. Gave it a couple laps around the inside O-gauge loop, then let it sit for ten minutes idling at half-power to get the battery charged up. I noticed that it ran itself right out of its traction tires, which is problematic as I don't have any fresh replacements. I might try reusing the old ones, using a bit of rubber-cement to hold them in place. We'll see how that works. Pics when I get some overhead lighting sorted (posted on Sideshot Saturday thread). Edit :: Found a few suitable replacement traction tires. Got those on.

Dropped this prewar Marx Commodore Vanderbilt on the track for a test run. It's gonna need more than the cursory lube-job I gave it, lol: Fortunately the outside loop is bereft of turnouts...I'd forgotten how poorly Marx stuff runs through other manufacturer's points.

One of my favorite MPC locomotives from 1981 that I just picked up. Btw they were new, never run! Tap on picture for larger photo. Dave
