Mrs Jennifer is gonna be so proud of Emile (again I should add) for his work in reunited a favorite pair that has been separated for many years.
It began like most things, at the beginning, this time in 1985. Mr Hall Mark wanted a special ornament to remember his favorite train by. So he built a beautiful engine which could easily be recognized by its bright red stack.
The engine’s name was Smoky, a name likely pirated from the famous bear, but that is another story. He received a prominent place on the front of the tree and was admired by the parents and their three children, Will, Joel, and Alice.
Many years passed and, horror of horrors, when the time came to hang Smoky, his bright red smokestack was missing. A search turned up nothing. A vote was taken and the entire family were unanimous in their agreement that stackless Smoky retain his position.
Years again passed. Nestled in the bottom of the ornament box was a plastic bag. It was one like you have, you know, a bag chock full of hangers, wire tops from broken balls, and all kinds of pieces that have been collected over the centuries.
Yes, there are good intentions to match the bag’s contents to wherever they came from, but it is always next year. After all, the bag was on the bottom and the ornaments have already been hung.
Which brings us to our hero... EMILE CRABCAKE
This morning I looked in the bag. There were parts missing from the tree topper, lots of hooks that Paula could have used instead of stealing and bending my paper clips, and a bright red funnel mixed in with the other necessary and useful items that will be used one day. Quickly I picked out two ornaments I recognized that belonged on the kitchen tree which Alice’s boys will put up Saturday... the same Alice who grew up watching Smoky.
About 8:30 I got back from the gym and remembered Emile’s Forum request for pictures of train ornaments. Down came the I-pad and photos were taken. I got to Smoky... he wasn’t as shiny as in 1985 and..... his red smokestack was missing.
And in my poor brain there arose such a clatter
That I sprang from the sofa to see if my idea did matter
Grabbed the bag, that was all full of stuff, found the funnel that was red, and ran to get Smoky. YES, oh wow and wowie, the missing funnel became a smokestack.
Metal tabs were inserted, the smokestack fit perfectly, and Loctite gel super glue, a new invention since 1985, now holds it on.
EMILE THANK YOU, you reunited Smoky and his stack. See what neat things this forum does. All because of a Christmas thread.
