One of my 252 crossing gates just now quit working. I checked it out and found a broken cam. It looks like an easy fix, but I have not taken one of these apart yet, other than to replace the bulb. It looks like all I have to do is tap out the plastic axel (which looks very fragile) and replace the cam. Has anyone had the experience? Any tricks?

I have not done work on the electromechanical part of the crossing gate; however, someone with experience will likely respond. Since you may have experience with crossing gates, let me interpose a question - Can you explain how to remove the bulbs and sockets? The part that has the bulbs and crosspiece has snapped off on mine. I have the front and back replacement parts. (The crossing gate was my first accessory from my childhood (about 60 years ago now) - I was rearranging accessories on my layout, and knocked it off - down the stairs.) Thanks. Alfred

Remove the two small terminal screws that hold the terminal clips. That will release the bracket assembly. That should allow you to remove the light assembly and replace the parts.

Thank you. I will give it a try and let you know the outcome. Have you made progress with the cam?

I have to order one from the Train Tender. I forgot to mention, when you reassemble the Terminal screws make sure the terminal insulator is on the rear screw and terminal clip. I tried to send you an exploded view of the 252 Signal Gate, but I could not get it on to this web site. TX

Thank you for following up. I hope you did not spend much time trying to upload the diagram. I am blind, so it would not have done any good. I have not tinkered with it yet - so I have nothing to report. (I can use this forum because I have a speech-enabled computer - software that reads the screen and typing keystrokes and allows me to navigate webpages.

I have just gotten around to dealing with the crossing gate. I actually turned it over to my repair guy, since I did not have the bulb sockets.. Is your gate fixed? Alfred
