Just opened up my latest rescues from the used car pound. The Lionel NYC caboose looks Canadian enough for me, the CN reefer is also Lionel and the NP box in the middle is Weaver. All good except the Weaver needs a few truck tweaks and some coupler work - it’s an assembled kit and the moving parts are a bit sticky. The caboose will be getting a CNR re-decal job. Dave

I am interested in buying a standard gauge tinplate set. The BLUE COMET. 400E engine and tender with 3 or 4 passenger cars. I am just having a hard time forking out the $$$$. Such a beautiful looking set though.

Such a beautiful looking set though. As I started reading this my mind went to I hope he has deep pockets. Then I got to the last line. Here is my passenger set. Consist of the 1988 remake 6-13110 (390E) and the 1934 - 1940 Passenger cars 1766, 1767, 1768 and a 1929 - 1940 restored 514R vented refrigerator car.
It's not blue, but to me it's just as pretty and was within my pockets in cost.

Oh boy, I've been known to fall down the Standard Gauge rabbit-hole now and again - lovely stuff there. I've found a few pieces in my area, but in much rougher shape. Dave

Nice looking set. Do you run it? I am going to end up paying the premium for the Blue Comet because of it's popularity and because I want the set to be in like new condition. I don't buy a lot of trains but when I do I like them pretty. I am not in a big hurry and can afford to wait for the right deal. One will come along sooner or later.

Yes I do. I don't buy to sit on a shelf and look pretty, although I do have some in that category it seems LOL.

2 eBay finds. I never heard of Lionel RGS before....... Not Lionel, although RGS (= Robert G. Salerno) used their products and other manufacturers’ for custom painting products. Based in Old Forge, PA, and used to do York and other eastern lshows.

That's it Joe,Robert Salerno, he has done repaints for many years. He was at York this past October. Most likely he will be there in April in the Orange hall.
