This cab 1, everything is hooked up but no signal is getting to the locomotive. The base is lighted and when I turn the red knob the light blinks but no response from the engine. I changed the cab number and the engine responded that the cab number was changed but still no response from the engine. Tried several locomotives but the same problem. Btw the common is hooked up to the track. New batteries in the remote.
What am I missing? Its not that hard to hook up but I gotta be doing something wrong.

Make sure the right wires go to the right rails. One wire goes from the track post (U) on the transformer to the TMCC unit then to the red side or outside rails. The common (A) should go directly to the center track.
Sounds like a track issue or TMCC hookup issue if all your engines are doing it…

Dave,
Make sure your command base is plugged into extension cords and the wall using only three prong cords and a three prong wall recepticle, if not you use a three to two prong adapter you will have a poor ground, and have bad performance.

This sounds like it might be the proverbial ground plane problem. Try holding your open hand over the engine while you are addressing it to see if it responds. If it does, there is some interference on the household circuit. I last had this problem when a lighting circuit had a bank of external LEDs added to it, and had to change the wiring to another socket.
The other cause might be some change in your layout - have you added any track lately?

I have not added any track but I was running Legacy in conventional so I decided to add TMCC. I would like Legacy but until the prices return to normal I'll use tmcc that I already had on my previous layout. I only used one of the common rails so I'm going to connect both outside rails and see if that improves things. Beings my layout is a 365 Christmas I have a ton of leds which may be inferring with the signal.
Thank you guys for your tips and help.
Well back to hunting for the problem!

Maybe not an issue if you have set up TMCC before, but after changing the CAB1/TMCC number of the engine in question did you reset the RUN/PGM switch on it to RUN?

Well everything now works. Except for one thing the horns on all my legacy Or tmcc I have tested does not work. Everything else does. The button on the remote is most likely the culprit. Ill take the remote apart and check the pad.
Again guys thank you for your responses and tips.
