The past few weeks there were poles asking about members rolling stock and locomotives from what manufacture made a majority of their trains. 3 of the 4 poles have MTH as the leading manufacturer of members trains. Lionel leads in Steam Engines, I would guess one reason is because Lionel has been around a little bit longer . I am disappointed in the way MTH was split-up, and not having a catalog anymore(I have yet to buy anything from the special announcements). Rolling Stock- (1st)MTH 50% (2nd) Lionel 29% Passenger Cars- (1st)MTH 47.50% (2nd) Lionel 27% Diesel Engine. (1st)MTH 50%. (2nd) Lionel 35% Steam Engine. (1st)Lionel 51%. (2nd) MTH 37% MTH had a great thing going with O gauge trains. It would be interesting to see where they were with accessories and HO trains.

It's a shame (but not surprising) that the train manufacturers (or anybody for that matter) don't publish detailed sales data. I would suggest a small addition (or the dreaded "*" to the title , that is "among those who responded to the poll"). Without that data, it's impossible to make any accurate (or sweeping) generalization.
Your thread got me thinking, though. I took a look at my own fleet and came up with the following: Rolling Stock (including MOW & cabooses): MTH w/ 28%; Atlas w/ 21%; Pecos River w/ 11% Passenger Cars (including head-end): K-Line w/ 44%; Weaver w/ 38%; Willliams w/ 13% Steam Locomotives: Williams w/ 44%; Lionel w/ 22%; 3rd Rail w/ 22%
Diesel Locomotives: Lionel w/ 80%; RMT w/ 20%;
Best,
George

Not surprised, Joe.
My MTH Sante Fe F3's from just a few years ago are by far the best diesel engines I have ever owned.

I can tell you 100% for sure where they are headed with HO and S. Sold all tooling to both! They no longer will be doing either. They will still be doing O and G (Tinplate Line).
As for me I am excited with what they are saying they want to do and what is in the pipe line. I am a BIG MTH Fan. I have Atlas and Lionel but LOVE my MTH!

I am wondering how profitable HO and their accessories were for MTH (and market share of HO they had), I know they sold HO & S- I started a thread about it when it happened.

So far, I am pleased with the special announcements. I have ordered some rolling stock but not engines.
If they start tinplate again, my club member will be very pleased.

I’m not phased by the new MTH approach. I rarely bought something from the catalog anyway. There is just a ton of used or new stock already available and at better prices.

I hear you on the used product but for what I see people getting for used I will buy new. Just my choice. I have a couple used items but usually they aren't quite equal up to the price I find people think they can get.
