Years ago I would not be happy with fantasy schemes but I have completely changed my mine. The fantasy schemes from Lionel have been incredible. The fantasy scheme from Mth for trainworld which I believe was a gp7 was very attractive and a sellout. I should have ordered that one. I have one Fantasy loco and that is the Lionel SD70ACe in the SF red and silver paint. it will not be the last.

I think we are in the era of fantasy schemes. It seems that new engines, engine and caboose sets, and rolling stock in various fantasy schemes are being announced weekly. That tells me they are selling and, if they sell, we will continue to see more announcements.
There was a time when I had no interest in fantasy schemes other then the Lionel Lines and even then I would have preferred those engines, cabooses and passenger cars to be in prototype schemes.
I have 2 Trump Train engine and caboose sets that I love and a number of Railking club cars that I tolerate but I’m not overly enthusiastic about. And then there’s my OGF rolling stock and an ES44 on order that I really love so I guess it’s a mixed bag. Some fantasy schemes are 👍 and others are 👎.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm open to fantasy deco. I have a MTH Rudolph set and is a lot of fun to run around the holidays.

Some stick up their nose and snub them. Me? I'm not a purist so If I like, I buy. Well actually, I did till prices went crazy.

Fantasy paint schemes have become main stream and are now widely accepted. Lionel indeed has done some marabous fantasy paint schemes. I would have never considered this Cab Forward were it not for the fantasy paint scheme. Count me in.

We may be in that era. But this model railroader will take a hard pass.

Gotta admit I’m at the stage now where the new purchases have trended toward the “what if” fantasy schemes. Recent examples include the U.S. DOD Veranda Turbine, the Vision Line WP GS-6, and the red NYC Mohawk. And let’s not forget the OGF club engine. The SP Daylight cab-forward that PTC Brian already mentioned started me on this path, and I’ve never looked back.
All these offerings add interest and variety — not to mention they’re always crowd-pleasers too.

The Vision Line Western Pacific GS 64 in the Orange stripe livery is an absolute winner in my book and is my favorite engine.

I don't have any.....yet. Fantasy schemes are important for keeping the hobby strong imo- manufacutres and dealers like them. The shark DOD Veranda is something I'd buy if I had the curves and $ for.

I reckon we can leave historical accuracy to the scale guys. Being closer to toy train land, fantasy schemes will just be a part of it I guess. For myself I like plausible "what-if" schemes. Outright fantasy such as modern liveries on steam locomotives turn me off.

Down with RIVET COUNTERS and people who besmirch their whitewalled engines with weathering, I say! It's MY railroad, and if I want fantasy schemes (not all of them - mainly the Daylight ones) that's my choice. Actually, looking at what I have, most of the rolling stock is fantasy in the sense that it is not strictly prototypical - just a representation of the real thing that is close enough for my purposes.
Did I mention that I don't like weathering???
Seriously, the fantasy schemes have by all accounts been big sellers for Lionel and others. That is a good thing in my book.
This is not the first time I have posted these - they are the engines I most run:
