Great review, Marty. Thanks! As you pointed out, the sleigh bell sounds should be selectable on their own. Not sure what Lionel's new sounds people were thinking there. I just wish they'd dispense with the clunking-and-knocking sounds that everybody finds so objectionable. All we're really looking for are the brake and wheel-screeching sounds... and in this case, perhaps a special set of sounds for Christmastime. Bottom line... it sounds like these boxcars are "tolerable" if we're willing to "settle". But they're not the best they could be. Lionel simply needs to re-issue the technology and sounds used in their original VisionLine Tankers with FreightSounds. They'd surely sell every one they could make... and then some. Agree 110% on the sound that Lionel has put into these cars. It's sound is more like a person lock into a boxcar and using a hammer to bang for attention. At first it sounded okay, not good, but okay. Then it became intolerable and ended selling the 2 I bought. Same with re-issuing the button uncouplers instead of the hidden ones. Seems Lionel is going backwards in technology.

I hooked three of mine together and ran them with my PE freight consist. I really like it! I wonder if I can hack that sound chip and isolate the bells...

Looking forward to a review of the PE Bi-Polar. Considering this one for my layout. Looks very nice! -Pete I have very hi hopes for the PE BiPolar. This engine IMO could be a sleeper hit if it comes as advertised. It looked big, the production sample, on the shelf at York. I assume they will use the same tooling as they did for the bi-polars from several years ago. I have one of those and they are fabulous engines. Great sounding horn. Word of warning, however. Despite their size, they have only two pickup rollers. The engine stalls moving slowly over successive atlas switches. I had to rig a power drop from a trailing car. Hopefully, they will have dealt with this.
