My 6-11224 Lionel Legacy E-6 Atlantic (circa 2011) has been one of my favorite engines, but has been problematic. It runs great with the Legacy electronics with the exception of the main smoke unit.
The element does get hot, but the fan doesn't puff the smoke out of the stack. I removed the smoke unit and disassembled it. The fan and the impeller are working fine. I reassembled it, but still can't seem to get it to work properly.
I'm thinking there might be a board problem somewhere since it appears to be missing the pulses to activate the fan.
At one time, Mike Reagan fixed it for me, but I have been unable to get a response from him.
Can anyone recommend an experienced Lionel tech that might be willing to give me a hand?
Thank you.

Try Alex Mailliae. He is well versed in Legacy locomotives and is recommended by Lionel for out of warranty repairs. He has done repairs for me and I highly recommend him. His email is: amalliae@aol.com

That's a great suggestion. Alex had helped me many years ago. Really great guy. I'll drop him an email.
Thank you Pete. Much appreciated.

Thought I'd report back in on this repair.
Alex sent me a video this past week of the diagnosis/repair. The smoke control board was faulty and needs replaced. I also asked Alex to give the engine a good "lube, oil, filter" service while he had it in his shop.
This particular engine has a lot jammed inside of its small footprint, so it makes maintenance and repair all the more difficult.
But thanks to Alex the engine is being repaired.

Good news indeed. Yes I too highly recommend ALEX on fixing anything. He does great work and always sends a video to show you what’s been done.

Alex and I got back into trains around the same time. Alex is a true professional and has always been very kind.
He told me that sometimes he is backed up 60 days on repairs. It is well worth the wait to have someone of his caliber take on the project.
This will be the last time I put repair money into this engine. I was reviewing my notes and it has been back for service five times since its purchase for one reason or another. It becomes a diminishing point of return. Love the engine and the look. I might try and find a MTH version somewhere of the 460 as personally, I've had much better luck with Mike's products.

It’s always nice when you can get something back on the rails!

Definitely, Adam. We'll get it back on the tracks in short order and get it back up for passenger service.
I will say, on a more positive note, that I really enjoy this engine's Legacy sound set and the whistle steam. It puts on a great show!
