After we closed at 4PM today at our model railroad business, I decided to oil the wheels in the bearing area of 3 of the MTH mail cars we have on a train. Well after I oiled them I looked at each side of the car. Actually curious as to all the letters & numbers. Well I noticed something actually wrong with one of the cars. This is a very very tiny mistake but I noticed. The UP build date is 9/69 meaning Sept 1969. Well on the Conrail version, it has the same month and year on the side, which that is incorrect as Conrail wasn't established until 1976. So I've come to conclusion, that the premiere train cars of the same style from years ago, (which these mail cars are like over 20 years old), the stamp MTH used for these cars and probably others, was all the same accept different paint schemes. This is absolutely no issues with me, it's so small that you have to see it up close. But to anyone who would, as I've learned over the years, I call them Rivet Counters. Nothing wrong with that, but I like the hobby of the trains and not worry about really tiny detail on train cars. Anyway, just thought this was a tiny find that was interesting.

The Conrail car could have been built in 1969 for one of the railroads that were absorbed into Conrail and later painted in Conrail colors.

Conrail never had one of those cars so it is a true fantasy
