Yesterday the grandsons came over to run trains. Today Rich “Doc” Holden came to work. Harry Hieke had two additional platforms for us at York and we have been installing them on the left side of the existing platform. The additions are 42” long which makes a nice extension. Earlier we installed one platform base; today we installed the roof and supports. It looks really good. Rich used to be an orthopedic surgeon so he is good at this. Next is lights installation and securing the supports. We plan to eventually use some of Harry’s platform signs. He can get decals that have local advertising for the location which in this case is Roanoke, Virginia. Here is Rich hard at work. I also snuck in a picture of the boys.

I would be a little worried about JAWS in the background. Looks like a nice working crew. Bill, it is coming along nicely. How is that ZW-L working out? I have been thinking about getting one of those.

I have been thinking about getting one of those. Wood we have been pleased with the ZW-L. Plenty of power and no problems. We used 50% on this level. We expect that level two will likely consume more power and have a second ZW-L ready to go. This weekend we were running three passenger trains for the first time and all okay. We plan to convert to LED lighting in passenger cars that don’t have it. Power to the passenger and freight yards can be turned on and off with the DCS remotes... part of our relay learning experience. I discussed power with Brian a couple of years ago and went with his recommendation. Lighting for the shelves and layout is powered with separate transformers from Dave (Evan Designs) so this reduces the load on the ZW-L. Forgot jaws. Mako shark, 530# state record at the time 30+ years ago. Beautiful, jumped 15-20 feet in the air on first run. Today we usually release them and all billfish.

Sure good to see the Roanoke Train Station get it's platforms. Nice to have Rich available to help.

PTC that is a side view of the station. The concourse comes out the rear and over two tracks. Steps go down to three tracks. Rich is working on the extension that serves tracks one and two. Entrance is on level two which is not yet in place. It is on a wooden frame right now.
There is a ton of work to do to level two in that area but we want to begin level two on the right side so the station will be like this for a while.

The second station platform is almost completed. Electricians have been busy ascertaining why lights on the right platform are a cold white while the newly installed platforms are a welcoming warm white. And, in the center, dark is the rage. The chief architect is working with the esteemed Colorado firm Evan Designs to solve the problem.
Nobody says that our construction team can’t multi-task. Work has been underway to convert the ZW-L primary transformer to command control. After exhaustive studies, it has been determined that ZW-L 1 has a fault (that means command won’t work) and a second ZW-L has been utilized. Early this morning the install was completed and power can now be managed by the remote. This completes a major milestone as all electrical work on Level One is complete just in time for Christmas.

Thanks Brian. All the foam is down and edges trimmed. I have a few more spots to adjust for clearence. Next up is seam sealing and paint. The wand attachment for my Winons foam cutter quit after the 3rd cut. Contacted them about repairing or buying a new one. They've already shipped out a free replacement. Great customer service and the wire attachment has worked great.

Nobody has posted for awhile. Christmas is for train running and many of us have been doing a lot of it. BUT, it seems that when my family visited Saturday afternoon, the accompanying helpers found a lot of things, especially turnout lights in need of renovation. The last two days have been spent troubleshooting and repairing the “adjustments” that were made. Thought that we had the upside down sideways problems solved. Attachments:
