I received another Lionel 6-12905 Factory Building Kit that was already built. I carefully took all pieces apart and painted the exterior walls with a reddish/brown primer. Next I used a pink spackle that dries white and a small metal spackle knife. I found the flexable metal knife works better than the plastic knives. After a few minutes I wiped down the walls with a damp paper towel and painted the foundation grey to simulate concrete. Next I used dark orange pastel chalk to color over the bricks and several different shades of grey chalk on the foundation. To help strengthen the glue joints I glued plastruct I-beams over each seam and then painted the interior walls. I really like the color of the roof as is so I sprayed dull coat over it and will use weathering powders to hopefully give it a more realistic look. This is a dry fit of the main pieces. I ordered some detail parts so once they arrive I will finish the doors and windows and post the finished model.... Thanks for looking

That looks fantastic. What is the brand of spackle that you use?

That is a fantastic effect - well done. The DAP Spackle info is extremely useful to me - the DIY stuff is just a lot easier to use than dedicated modelling putty.

Great job. If you wish to add some weathering that is not permanent, you can try applying powdered charcoal with a makeup brush. IMO, this adds a nice touch and if you apply too much or don't like the effect it easily wipes off.

I picked up a Lionel Rico Station that I want to disassemble and repaint. I don't know how to remove the glue to take it apart. How did you accomplish this?
Thanks

Comparing finished-unfinished model. I’m thinking of making a rail and trucking depot for my citrus packing business.
