I once owned a "LocoSound" MTH Locomotive and have recently had some MTH PS1 locomotives catch my eye. Question is, are not the PS1 locos the ones that if you dont keep the battery charged it scrambles the board? Also, do you run them conventional or can you use MTH DCS?

PS1s are the early QSI boards made for MTH. Yes some of them can scramble if the battery goes dead. They are conventional only engines. Many of these are still out there and as long as the battery doesn't cause an issue are good runners.

The PS1 engines set the stage for scale engines in O-Gauge. They were an excellent value and still are as you can usually buy them dirt cheap.
You can always have them upgraded to TMCC or DCS, so I would not hestitate if you find something that appeals to you, Vince.

Great engines if you junk the PS1 and upgrade to TMCC or DCS. Otherwise I wouldn't touch them. No battery and you will scramble the board for sure.
