Today, I got into an e-mail exchange with one of our loyal OGF members about dogs. His dog is under the weather and is going to the vet tomorrow. It made me think back of this time of year and a wonderful Christmas dog story I would like to share with our members.
We owned a magnificent St. Bernard male. He had not been altered for the first two years as the vet recommended for large breed dogs that we wait until he was two years old. My daughter came home from school one day and asked if we could temporarily take care of her teacher's female St. Bernard. She was going on a sabbatical. We lived in the country at the time, so we had the room to care for this pup. I asked if the dog had been spayed and was assured that she was. The teacher never came back, so we had a new member of the family.
In November, the female showed signs of pregnancy. Spayed, yeah right. The following Christmas Eve, she started to deliver about 8:00 PM and it became an all-night affair. The last pup came about 4:00 Christmas morning, the count 14 healthy beautiful pups.
We loved them all as they were so special. They all went to happy families including one I kept, the first born, Sir Lancelot (Lance for short). What a great dog.
How could I ever forget that Christmas Eve. If you love dogs as we do, you will love this Christmas Eve story.

Great story with a nice ending.
Our middle dachshund is having issues. She is having trouble getting around and walking super slow. We thought it was just a muscle pull or something like that. Apparently it is more of a spine or bone issue. Keeping her comfortable while waiting for a vet appointment to open.
