We used skirting material in connection with finishing the front of the benchwork. Elizabeth did the cut and sew and we both installed it by stapling it to the top of the benchwork framing. It left an unfinshed looking top edge, so to correct this, we used 5 1/2" wide oak boards applied to the top of the skirting. They were lightly stained with two coats of Urethane.
There is one area that required a different solution. It is a top and bottom curved area to match the 0-72 curves. I had to extend the track into the aisle to make it work as all curves on our layout are 0-72. So, I used felexible molding that did the trick.
Most folks use black or a dark colored table skirting. We decided to go a different route as our layout is also a tad different. There is lots of the color yellow on the CIC side with all of the taxi cabs, vehicles and the awnings on the GCT base. Besides, it is my favorite color. So yellow skirting works for us on the CIC side of the layout. Elizabeth wanted to use skirting panels on the Polar Express side that reflected the colors on our Northern Lights, so there are several colors for the skirting.
Happy this project is finally done.

I'm really impressed. Also the colors of the skirting's do justice to the layout and the Theme.

Elizabeth's idea, Marty. Make a set of Railroad tracks to go down the aisle. We used composite wood to make the effect.

The skirting looks great Brian. I like using a color other than black. I have green material that I hope to put up this coming week. Skirting makes a huge difference.

Thanks, Joe. It actally looks better in person. The colors we chose sure brighten up the train room a lot. The only window is in the door, so this helps.

Once I fiinshed the trim boards for the front corner of the PE side of the layout, I was able today to ballast the track on the lower shelf area.
Thinking back to when I designed the track plan, by running the CIC tracks under the Polar Express side of the layout, I more than doubled the length of the runs for the CIC side. It was a pain doing it, but it was sure worth the effort. The extension out into the aisle allowed for all O-72 curves.

That trim really gives that section of the layout a finished look. Smart idea.
