Thanks for the videos, Craig. It's very cool to watch a steam engine running.

I just noticed the chalk writing on the hatch of the smokebox…anyone know what “Super Choo” means? I am guessing "Super Choo" is a nickname given to the 1309, meaning simply big train, from someone on the renovation team. The S looks a lot like the S in the Superman logo.

Craignor, Glad you and the family had the experience. It's great to ride history. My wife and I have not had an opportunity to get to the Western Maryland (we're in Baltimore) - it is on the list. Maybe later this Fall. What were the cars like? - and the route and length? Alfred

Hi Alfred, Everything you need is on the WMSR.com website. When booking your trip online make sure your trip is marked steam or diesel, whichever you prefer. We rode the Sunday Frostburg Flyer, it leaves Cumberland at 11:30 and gets to Frostburg around 1:15, they had a free bus that picks you up in Frostburg and takes you to the Toasted Goat restaurant for brunch, the bus comes back and gets you at 2:05 and 2:15 and takes you back to the station for your return trip which leaves at 2:30 and returns you to Cumberland at 4PM. You can see on the website they had a nice variety of cars. We rode in the upper level of the Ocean View, a great dome car made by Budd in the 50’s. The seating was comfortable and the ride as smooth and quiet, but not so quiet, I could still hear the whistle on the 1309. I thought up in the dome we would have a good view of the 1309 and the scenery, and we did. We got a lot of info out of our waiter, who also works in the shop and participated in the renovation. I would recommend the Ocean View.
