As this forum grows I thought I would be helpful to have threads related to specific topics. I've seen many vintage photos of steamers, but seeing one in operation today is not all that common. Of course the UP Big Boy has many posts related to its run across America. A few years back the SP 4449 Daylight was running excursions as well, I have photos but none that I own and am able to post. I've had the opportunity to ride the Durango Silverton narrow gauge and see other steamers on excursions. I missed seeing 4014 arrive in West Chicago. I know UP was concerned about the weight of the engine on the track as it moved into its display position. Here's a start and homage to the old steamers which were lovingly preserved and still running today. The Durango Silverton narrow gauge railroad. Photos taken about January 1982 or '83 the day after a heavy snow. If you ever get a chance to ride these rails - do not turn it down.

Norfolk and Western 611 Excursion Wheaton Illinois sometime in the 1980s or 90s This may have been the first steam excursion I ever photographed. As I recall the drive wheels were massive almost 6 feet in diameter - maybe more. So far this is the only image I digitized. I will have to find my old film negatives to produce more images. It was really crazy that day with people running around everywhere on live and very busy track. It was unfortunate the sun angle was not conducive to capturing the stunning red and black of that engine. Found a couple more images. Attachments:
