I recently added the Lionel 50th Anniversary passenger set with the J3A Hudson and 5 scale Lionel Lines heavyweights. About 2 years ago I found the add-on "Hillside" station sounds diner for this set, and bought it. I bought it thinking it would be good "trading fodder," but that hasn't been the case. So, when the set came along at a good price, I bought it and now have the complete 6-car set. A little crazy, but I'm a sucker for Hudsons, and I really like this one, especially the whistle.

I didn't know FedEx delivered on national holidays, but this arrived yesterday to my surprise. I'm trading in my only MTH diesel, a Proto-2, for this Lionel Legacy GP30 for the freight side of the layout. I couldn't access the command features with the MTH one, since I have only Lionel TMCC/Legacy. Anyway, this one performs in command control flawlessly and I love the turbocharged sounds it makes. A nice holiday weekend surprise. Happy 4th of July everyone! Our BBQ starts at 4:00, so come on over. 🇺🇸

I love GP30s and this one just made the list!
The Santa Fe blue/yellow scheme is really sharp. The details look excellent too.
It is a good idea to standardize your fleet. Suddenly MTH doesn’t seem long for this world and post support may get sketchy in the future.
Beautiful Engine! Congratulations Vern!

That was exactly my thinking about fleet standardization and the rather “iffy” future of MTH support.

Speaking of silver trucks, here is my newest Lionel. It is a NYS&W Alco C420. It is a Legacy version. I may try some black wash on the trucks just to tone them down a bit. I am still undecided. This series of locomotives were purchased from the Long Island Railroad by the Susquehanna. I don’t think any of them exist any more. The Susquehanna has owned many, many types of locomotives through out it’s history, ranging from SD45s, to Chinese steam engines to Budd RDCs. The caboose is an Atlas NE-6. The real cabooses numbered ten on the NYS&W in 1948. This is a two rail version...the only way I could get it, and I have installed three rail trucks already. I have yet to do the re-wiring for the lights. The Susquehanna is a line that runs from Little Ferry NJ, up through Northern NJ eventually arriving to Binghamton, NY. The railroad continues up into New State to Utica and Syracuse. The railroad runs right behind my residence. They operate 6 trains a week. Tom

Nice looking loco and caboose, Tom. I’ve always liked ALCO’s beefier-looking trucks on all of their diesel locomotives.

John, I looked this set up online and it looks fabulous. According to the description I saw it will run on O31 curves, surprising since it looks like a scale size engine and cars. This is a very sweet acquisition. đź‘Ť

Oh, and thanks for the invite. I'm sorry I couldn't make it.
