Adam, that gas station is way cool. Did you print and paint it?

Gary and Keith, I also prefer the RF&P to the MTH transport. I generally prefer cars lettered for real railroads rather than Lionel or MTH lines but that was the only car with 53 Caddilacs and 49 Fords and I really like those cars. If you think about it it doesn't make sense for a transporter to be carrying 49 Fords and 53 Caddys and the car right behind it is carrying 57 Chevys but since this is toy trains all is well.

Have you considered re-decaling the MTH car? What I see is removing the MTH on side, and removing the classic auto- MTH- transport lettering and replacing them with decals of your first car. Leaving the other lettering Built, cap. etc.

Adam, that gas station is way cool. Did you print and paint it? I sure did. The pumps didn’t come out as good as I wanted but overall I think it came out looking good. Fits well into my layout. It serves as the corner gas station.

I wanted a REXALL center flow Hopper car but then couldn't find one so I stripped a Rio Grande car and spray painted Testors Flat aircraft light grey, had decals made. (actually this is my first time I did this in "O" scale). So now I change many rolling stock, or repaint. (I'm to cheap to buy ready made). My NYC wood caboose was another road name which I now forgot.

Latest was a complete 225E, a disassembled 225E, and a complete 226E. The 225E's are added to my Uncle's (got it Christmas of '40), been mine since about '52. Before that it was an Erie FM Trainmaster, nice uncracked shell, got another shell on it waiting for time to put NP decals on it.

Well whadaya know, harborbelt? I was messing around on eBay about a week ago and just for fun, keyed in the Lionel 6-29152, that very rare Santa Fe Super Chief 2-car add-on set that matches the rare 4-car set both of us have, and lo and behold, there it was! Offered by a hobby shop in Illinois, sealed and NIB for $230 Buy It Now plus $10 shipping, I grabbed it and am glad I did! It arrived today and the seller had even boxed the sealed shipping carton with packing peanuts (I love sellers who do that). I carefully unpacked them, lubed the axles, placed them in the train and away it went. A finished 6-car set pulled by an ABA set of Lionel F7s. I'm amazed at how much power the A unit has. If I notched it up to full throttle, the whole train would leave the track. Anyway, I'm very satisfied to have obtained this completed set, just 10 days after you got yours, harborbelt. I guess the gods are with us. We seem to have started a trend! And yes, fortune has smiled on those who search. I am very happy with my cars although I have not run all six together yet. I will try to get some video footage once I have tracked down where I have the other four stored. Actually my eBay search is still in place (by default) and I think it disclosed the set you have got, which is better than mine because you have the original shipping carton. I think I saw one other like that but it was only for sale with the 4 car set, similarly factory sealed, and the seller wanted a four figure sum for them. 🙄However, the cars are certainly worth what you and I paid. As a postscript on the elusive 6-29152 set, I see that the seller of the combined 2- and 4-car sets I referred to above, sealed in the original shipping cartons, has reduced his asking price to below $1,000, $899.99 in fact including shipping. Still too much as far as I am concerned even allowing for rarity value.

Booty from Greenburg's Edison - K Line abandoned bridge with Fisherman - $25 and a wigwag board from JLM in Freehold for my 154 Crossbucks - once I get everything up and running, if I can, I will post pictures or videos. Family issues have prevented my return to the train attic - Mom is in the hospital with bronchitis and my daughter's boyfriend's Grandmom has terminal cancer and his family have been crashing at my house, so it's been crazy.

My Lionel water tank died. The was not the fancy one that showed water dropping in the tank. It was the simple one where you pushed a button, got a very loud buzzing noise and the spout crashed down on the tender hard enough to cause a derailment. It was also not very realistic looking unless located on the Virginia Tech campus (maroon tank, orange roof). Looked around for a replacement and found Broadway Limited which makes animated tanks in many gauges. The animation is a slow moving spout and sounds of water filling and nearly intelligible shouting. They come in a variety of finishes, including large RR logos. If I could have found a UP one I would have gotten it. Settled for one already weathered. The weathering was a disappointment; it looked as if someone had taken a rag with black paint on it and wiped it AROUND the tank. Weathering should be dripping DOWN on this thing. I declined to try to correct. Other than that it looks great and the action is terrific. I raised it up once (to account for my track being on cork roadbed). but may have to raise it again (those big tenders on those big steamers). Here are a couple of photos and a video. The sound is hard to pick up on the video, but it is fine in person.
