I am starting a new weekly thread “Tuesday Train Trivia” it will have questions about trains - real & model, layouts, and other various train related items. We know google is very knowledgeable about trains but how about OGF members.
Since my favorite RR is UP and most everyone is a Big Boy fan, today’s question (s) are about the Big Boy.
How many Big Boys were produced?
How many Big Boys were produced in their first run production?
And a Bonus, what scale is the Kline Big Boy that rolls on O gauge track? ( I almost bought one @ Syracuse a few years ago).
*I will be having help with this thread, so if a member wants to take a week to ask a question send a message to me.*

Just the bonus question rang a bell. Around 1/55 or 1/58 - there was machinist chatter about possibly converting the K Line Allegheny and/or Big Boy to S gauge. I think somebody did the Allegheny, but the Big Boy?....tons o' work.

Thanks for looking and the responses:
25 Big Boys were made
20 in the first production
Bonus, Kline version is 1:64. The last Syracuse show I went to someone had 3 new ones they were selling, they would have gave me a good deal, even took another 100 off when I was hemming and hawing, I just decided they were too small. Details are great. Next time I went pass the table I think they were in the process of selling the last one.

Well, I never - knew that about the K-Line Big Boy, meaning that it was actually made in S scale. Lionmaster and those MTH steamers made for small radius tracks are “compressed” in the sense that they are scaled down in most main dimensions but not to a particular overall scale. I understand their appeal but it’s 1/48 O scale for me. For example, there have been a number of cab forwards offered for small radius tracks but I’d rather have fewer engines and have to set up O-72 or wider track on the carpet.
I looked this up and way back some 15 years ago our friends at CTT published a very useful article on this model, which is worth a read: www.trains.com/ctt/news-reviews/reviews/k-line-union-pacific-4-8-8-4-big-boy/
