All I need is a tax friendly state for retirees that has at least one Menard's nearby so I can be a kid again and browse their train stuff! Especially during Christmas time and the fact that most of their stores are in the snow belt even better!

I have two Menards stores near me. One is about a half hour drive to get to and the other one is just over 45 minutes drive.
I enjoy having both near by but I'd rather be in a warmer state!

Menard's has a nice selection of trains at affordable prices. The Menards rep doesn't seem to check in here too often but the forum is growing and very busy right now.

I did not know Menards had train stuff, I live about 10 minutes from a store, i will have check them out.
Well I checked it out they had lots of pre-built buildings and a few pieces of rolling stock ( no prices ) ,
but no sets or powered units,
Menards is Beta testing their first engine, an F7. They have released a few as Santa Fe Warbonnets and the latest is in Santa Fe Bluebonnet livery. Since this is their first engine they are trying to work out the 🐜 so that when they are released in larger quantities and different road names they will be good quality.
I don't work for Menards. I'm just a happy customer. I have a few buildings and a number of their freight cars.

Jim, I've made a few modifications to Menards' cars here and there. They are excellent value for the price, and a few tweaks are well worth the effort. I've shopped in store once, but selection is limited - I prefer looking online. The video shows some of my Menards' cars mixed in with Lionel and Crown products on a mixed freight. They don't charge tax on food here in Michigan and if you're a resident and file homestead your taxes are a little cheaper. There is a Menards here and there are a lot of retirees including myself.

Dunno about the rolling stock (since I'm mostly postwar Marx, the Lionel-compatible knuckle couplers are too much trouble to deal with), but the general consensus, both here and on the other forums (forii?), is that the Menards offerings are not of the very highest quality and are not available in all types and road names, but for low price and value, they're hard to beat. I don't live near a bricks-and-mortar store, but *have* bought a few accessories on-line, and couldn't be more pleased. I bought one of their LED billboards (which comes with interchangeable stickers, though I made my own, featuring the grand-gerbils) to qualify for a free illuminated '49 Ford van (visible in all three pics):

I live near a Menard's. The only warning I can give is that a quick trip to pick up a single item can end up costing you over $100. Especially if your wife comes along.

Neat billboard - good possibility for a TVC billboard. Thanks for sharing. We don't have a Menards here but just checked and they are available on-line. Is it hard to change the signs?  |
