JDStucks and his group were trolling the York Meet and I missed every single one of them. Was hoping to see them and tell them how much I enjoy their videos on YouTube. Maybe next time. The younger ones are our future and I am so excited by how excited these people are for our O GAUGE Hobby. I love hearing about their layout builds and all the stuff they own or are searching for.
Me, I just run my trains and buy what I like. No Layout theme or time period. No sticking with certain lines. Wife gets upset because I am all over the board with different road names. East, West, South or North I am interested. Big line or little, If I like it I buy into it. Looking for a MTH Shay and if I buy one it will run with My Union Pacific Big Boy or MY UP DDX40A I ain't picky.
The younger set does what I probably should have. PLANNING! Gosh I love those guys, so energetic an all.

Curtis, I agree that it's great to see young guys like Jason, Chris, Dan and others so active in the hobby. It does my heart good to see young guys excited about O gauge.
One of the beautiful things about 3 rail O gauge is that anything goes. Your layout is your creation. You can do whatever you want with it. I mostly stick with New York Central for 2 reasons. First, it's by far and away my favorite railroad and second, it keeps me from buying everything I see. Storage space in Florida is at a premium so I have to be careful what I buy. I also have the two Trump trains and an Amtrak and the NYC SD70 Heritage engine for when I want to run contemporary trains.
If I had the space to store trains I'd buy more. I think it's a law that we buy trains until we run out of room but that doesn't stop some guys.
What I'm trying to say is that if you are having fun you are doing the hobby right.

Made some good points there, Curtis. I saw and talked to Sean, chris, Jason in the orange hall and it was great seeing them all. Even though I'm much older than them it was great talking to them knowing they are the future of the hobby.

There were definitely more "young" folks at this show than I remember in 2019. I can say confidently that, there are more young O-gaugers out there than people realize. They just don't always frequent the forums. But they're really great people and I think prove that this hobby has a bright future. - Jason

What I'm trying to say is that if you are having fun you are doing the hobby right. One of the reasons for coming back to O was all the rivet counters in N scale. That was ruining the fun for me. Plus I now have operating accessories!! Only have run across one person in O that had a snarky attitude on "the other" O gauge forum. He said anyone that didn't have room for large scale curves, shouldn't be running articulateds. I told him what he could do with his attitude and several other people dog piled on him too. That kind of support didn't happen in the N scale community. Heck when I put the articulateds under the tree on the small Christmas layout, those are the ones friends and others like the best . . . although my wife prefers the Mickey Mouse 4-4-0.

Our hobby is indeed fortunate to have many younger folks contribute in a very positive fashion. Their model building is top-drawer.
I find a similar trend among the Department 56 community. This hobby was in free-fall for many years and then the younger crowd came onto the scene. Prices for the retired D56 pieces have soared on eBay. They are also very talented modelers.
This is a very positive trend. Our hobby is ageless, we all share a common interest.

I'm with you - I like seeing the youth involved. Hopefully more and more go into the manufacture realm of trains.
Curtis when you described how you purchase and run trains you nailed me to a tee. I also receive the same comments or thoughts from the wife. We recently had a home inspector go through our house. She was the one home leading the way. When they came to the traincave she warned him and her biggest comment was "it's a constant project"! After looking around he stated he had a buddy that he'd have to drag out of the room.

I actually think there are more layouts being sold with the home today than in previous years. My son in law recently ask me what i was going to do if I moved to NC. I said dismantle everything. He ask if it could be done. I told him yes but the mountains would have to be cut up and reused and sectioned into a newer mountain. The table could be taken apart but the 1.5 inch foam on top would have to be cut as the table frames are all built as 4x8's and screwed together but the foam was laid crossing the seams. Then I said if someone wanted the tables left with the mountain I would leave them. After all I am mainly interested in buildings and trains on the table should I move.
All this really came into the forefront recently as I lost a good friend Saturday Morning and we bury him tomorrow morning. I sure hope God has a train table with some great trains as I can't take these with me.

I've been asked a few times what would happen to the layout if we move. I told my wife and kids it would stay. Whoever buys the house can decide. I would take power supplies, buildings, trains etc etc
Sorry to hear about your friends passing. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Just wanted to say thanks for the support. Today I actually got to compare what it felt like to compare being run over by a truck verses a train. As I was really run over in September 2019 while in fire gear at an active fire by a pickup and today got run over emotionally by a train with the burial of a great friend. Thanks for your support.
