My journey to York. I traveled with one of our members PRRFan Rick H. We flew into Baltimore and rented a car for the 1 1/2 hour trip to York. Arriving around 9:00 am, checked in and immediately went to the fair grounds. The opening was at 12 noon and we spent our time talking with the many other early birds congregated by the entrance to the Silver and Blue halls. Many were very excited to be there and the crowd grew and grew.
Upon entering the halls I saw the new spacing guidelines and was pleasantly surprised to see how much easier it was to navigate for both the vendors and the public. This was the first day so the vendors did not know their sales status. On Saturday we went back to these halls and The vendors I spoke with were delighted with the sales for the overall weekend. Many of the tables were cleared of products. Vendors I knew from home had participated in the "Bandit" sales up at the Wyndham hotel. My 92 year old friend Lenny told me it was one of his best years. Marty Visnick also declared it a great year.
We saved the Orange Hall for the end of the day. I agree with all of the previous posts it was strange. Big empty spaces.
Lionel's booth was terrific and very crowded. Several Lionel crew members were there answering questions.
Overall the crowd in the Orange hall was limited. A healthy group but definitely not like the years before. The member halls were packed most of the time.
Rick and I spent Thursday in the halls and then met up with our OGF crew at Olive Garden. Emile and Jenn hosted the event and we had a great time. The legendary Eddie G. started great conversations about the history of York and the early days of the fair.
Friday we went to the halls and met up with the OGF members for our photo opp. Emile and Jenn were passing out hats and coffee cups.
After lunch Rick and I drove down to Strasburg to visit the PA Railroad museum. I had never been there. It was astonishing. And, certainly a place you have to go back too just because you simply cannot take it all in, in one visit.
Saturday a short visit to the halls and then back to Baltimore for the ride home. The pic below is Narragansett Bay, Conanicut Island, Aquidneck Island and the Jamestown and Newport bridges.
Good time had by all.
