TOM, I have been wanting that for a few years now. Every time a train passes the Engineers always waves. Maybe….? An animated engineer could be done - Marklin has in one of its HO switchers - but he only turns from facing out of the window to forward. A wave is a little more difficult to engineer, although I am sure somebody has done it in O scale.
The Marklin engine is shown here although obviously the "crewtalk"/sound is not in English!

Interesting. I always worry with more stuff that moves there are more things that can break. Not a bad idea though.
