Anyone know what resistor I can simply put inline on a dc motor to run it forward only ac?
I know there is a small resistor or diode, the cheap lionel 0-4-0 tank loco's from the 70s or 80s came with them factory

I ordered these and so far they seem to be working, I just installed one on one side of the motor. It seems to take off a little rough but I think it did on dc as well. I tried on 2 different dc motors and neither motor seemed to be getting hot. One of the loco's I put one of these on was a dc only james gang at&sf 4-4-0 general lol

Glad to heard that you got it working. That's funny, the 4-4-0 that I converted is also from a James Gang AT&SF set. It also happens to be the first train I ever received. You may want to add a little weight to it while you are at it. And yes, it runs a bit rough and takes a bit more power to get it started running down the track.
