Thanks Marty. I read that you said that last week. BUT still no word from Lionel.
I contacted my dealer yesterday before returning the RPO car to him. I am tired of Lionel. There are some great alternatives available and I will be searching them out at York next week.
It isn’t fun anymore. Much of the enjoyment is the anticipation, the waiting, and the excitement that we have felt for 50 years. Disappointment is no fun and is, thanks to other manufacturers, unnecessary.

The Polar Express line has so much popularity, For the good of the hobby, I hope Lionel get this straighten out to everyones satisfaction.

I tend to agree but I waited too long to buy a scale Polar Express. As long as it costs me nothing to push them to get it correct, I'll wait. If they blow it, I'll return it in a New York minute (whatever that means). The add on cars and the Polar BiPolar need to be correct colors. Period. There is no doubt that there is something wrong in Concord with the amount of just color screw ups. The only way it gets better is to keep calling them out. The only thing I can even think that's happening is once signed off on, something changes overseas. That means that the person in charge there is not doing their job. Ultimately it all ends up back in Concord's lap. Pop a box open and see what you are sending ot before it goes out.

If they blow it, I'll return it in a New York minute (whatever that means). Marty, as a native New Yorker, having grown up and lived most of my life in the New York City suburbs, I can explain. Everything in New York City is fast. People drive fast, walk fast, talk fast, eat fast, etc. Fast, fast, fast, so even though a minute is the same everywhere it's quicker in the city. Not as a measure of time, but as an expectation. It's not uncommon to hear New Yorkers saying things like, "What's wrong with you, don't you know how to move?", "Do you have a speed other than reverse?", "You snooze, you lose", "I don't have all day!" So folks from around the country, where people live at a more normal pace, came up with the phrase, "In a New York minute" to mean really fast.

I think my best solution is to find a K-Line RPO Heavyweight passenger car and have Harry Hieke custom paint it to maych the PE colors.

I talked to Ryan yesterday about a few things including the polar RPO car, passenger cars, TriPolar (Polar Express BiPolar) and another concern. He assured me that the RPO would be addressed and that the passengers cars and BiPolar would be correct Polar Colors.
As unfortunate as the RPO car is I feel very confident that Lionel will take care of it. Thanks to Ryan to take the time to listen and address my concerns.

Apparently Warner Brothers even signed off on it. Whoops. I’m just glad Lionel is standing behind their product. Ryan also acknowledged that there have been a fair amount of paint issues across the product line and that was being addressed.

I spoke with Lionel about this a week or so ago. They assured me that the cars were going to be corrected, and, in the meantime, to return mine to my dealer for a full refund. I don't have a timeline on the repaint, but it probably will not be this year...

Maybe a dumb question, but does Lionel send representative to the China plant to check products during production of their products to ensure they are on time and the product is as advertised in BTO features, colors, and details? Also, are products received inspected when they arrive on shore before shipping to dealers?

Maybe a dumb question, but does Lionel send representative to the China plant to check products during production of their products to ensure they are on time and the product is as advertised in BTO features, colors, and details? Also, are products received inspected when they arrive on shore before shipping to dealers? Some manufacturing campuses in China do not allow on-site inspections. Lionel may very well be using one of these factories. They offer lower cost manufacturing, but at what price to the brand value?

If that is the case, and with all the problems coming up, which doesn't do good for the Lionel name. Maybe its time to find a plant that does allow on-site inspection. I'm sure with lost of revenue and trust in Lionel products and future releases, I personally would seek out a new manufacturing site. Wonder who pays for all these re-do's of products? I feel as if Lionel is eating these re-do's from their profits rather then charging the plant, which in turn leads to increases in the final product which we pay for.

This morning we talked to Ryan about the paint on the RPO not matching the other cars. He was quite candid, explained what happened, and said that they are working with the manufacturer to figure out if the best course of action is to repaint or send out new shells.
If you bought an RPO and want a car with matching paint, call Lionel and have your name put on a list.
When a decision is made, Lionel will announce it and put it on a forum.
Thanks to Ryan for the answer and help. We were impressed.
