I had a communication issue with one of my SD70s tonight, wasn't picking up the signal. It kept running like it was in conventional mode whenever I turned the throttle up even though the legacy command was on (I use a Z4000). I took the top off and put it in program mode, same thing started going when I applied the throttle. Then I turned the throttle down again, held the set button on the legacy controller with the program switch on still in the engine and pulled the throttle up again to give it power- the horn sounded-all is good now. Don't know why it wasn't picking up the signal.

I had a Western Pacific / UP SD-70 do the same thing. Turned out to be a bad R2/R8 board right out of the factory. Contacted Lionel and they sent me a new board. plugged it in and she was good to go.
