Hi GUYZ, I am thinking of doing a project with either a Railking or Premier Ten wheeler repaint. The Railking is a PS3 and the Premier is a PS2. The question I have is what would be a better engine to have to repaint and work with. Is the Railking engine to O scale size 1/48 scale. Does the Railking have a die cast tender? The cost is RK $250, Premier $500. Your thoughts. Thanks for your time on this.

To the best of my knowledge all Railking steam engines are semi-scale with some being very close to scale size and others less so. If scale size is important I'd suggest buying the Premier model.

Premier hands down. As long as it’s the 3 volt PS2 system which would be post 2004/5 production. Now I’m not saying railking is junk, like stated above railking is semi scale for the most part, with some diesels and rolling stock that is scale.

Thanks GUYZ, for your reply. I will be on the lookout for this engine PS 2 at YORK or will get in contact with the person that has the Premier one for sale.

Speaking of Scale. I have the:
O Gauge RailKing 4-4-0 General Steam Engine w/Proto-Sound 3.0
What size would this be, traditional o gauge, semi-scale, or ??
CityofNO

CityofNO I would classify it as traditional. As Gary noted it's bigger than scale but it's sized right to look good with traditional rolling stock and other traditional locomotives. I like the Railking General. I think it's an attractive engine and, since I'm a traditional/semi-scale kind of guy, it's not being scale doesn't bother me.

The 19th Century PS3 Ten wheelers are all die cast. Some of the PS2 versions are plastic tender shells. A Disney fanatic that I know pretty well Carmine Crudele, Has repainted three of these 10 wheelers to match the engines at Disney World. He did some modifications to one of the 10 wheelers to match a mobile. He is on Facebook you may be able to ask him about this. You can also look up the American O Gauge Feature page as he has been a contributor and has been featured. Here is the link: instagram.com/americanogauge?igshid=1fmcuarsqpy82
