Jim / John - A play on words - The purple and gold is not any stronger then the orange - But is more seductive - quick to draw you in! Other then some rolling stock I have fought off the draw of the purple and gold.

Ah ha... the look on your face when you came down hugging that purple and gold box at Dennis's house... I'll never forget it ... This trip to York I bought more MTH engines than Lionel!

Once you have the DCS hooked up, and you have 9's and 10's all around the layout, its a slippery slope from there.

I have one of these towers and I agree that the weathering is a great improvement. It would be fair to describe mine as a little too “Plasticville” but I didn’t mind that until I saw this effort.
Personally I would have left the red beacon on the top but I have an irrational thing about light features.

Lights make a difference for sure. That's why every building and structure is lighted. Also, I like running with only layout lights, structures, accessories and engines on, and room is dark.

Unfortunately the beacon Lionel installed on top of my tower was a very rapid strobe. Couldn't deal with it, had to go All of the other lights on the tower remain.

"Unfortunately the beacon Lionel installed on top of my tower was a very rapid strobe"
Evans Design has strobe lights that are very realistic in terms of the flash. I installed two on Lionel Water Towers.

To be honest I am not sure I have ever seen a coaling tower with a beacon light on it.

I've loved running trains with the room lights off since I was little. There is something magical about all the light coming from the layout.
