I didn't pre-order too much from the Lionel 2019 Volume 1 Catalog, but I did spring for two trackmobiles -- primarily because of the roadnames: Bethlehem Steel and PP&L. Both of those names are a throwback to my teen years in the Lehigh Valley. These trackmobiles are certainly not the greatest price/performers out there nowadays, but they are cute little gems that provide a nostalgic touch of Lionel postwar heydays along with the popular modern-day add-on of basic command-control. No sounds... but these trackmobiles have an illuminated, detailed interior PLUS headlights and tail lights that toggle from white to red lights dependent on the direction of travel. In addition two strobe lights (located on both sides of the roof) can be controlled by the CAB1 or CAB2 handheld controller. As with all of these mobile units that Lionel makes, it's best to run them on simpler track configurations -- avoiding the longer turnouts and complicated trackwork, where these little jewels are likely to stall out. Aside from that caveat, these units should add a bit of fun and whimsy to layouts of all shapes and sizes. Nice Pick up. One of the SD3R members has one and he pulled two of the Atlas 33,000 gallon tank cars.

David, Thanks for posting the trackmobile.
My layout has a lumber yard scene where this little buggy would work real hard. I ordered one from Charles Ro ten minutes ago.

This would be the perfect little engine to haul pull the track cleaning car around the layout. Got to get one.

How can you get it to run on the layout with Ross switches, 072 and up? We are having trouble with some smaller engines, much less something this tiny. Would love to add one for local industries and a coal mine.

Would love to add one for local industries and a coal mine. As an FYI... the roller spacing on these Trackmobiles is roughly 3-1/2" to 3-5/8". So your mileage may vary depending on different track vendor turnout specs. There are no industry standards in the O-Gauge industry for turnout construction, which is unfortunate. I think you'll be OK over O-72 turnouts (or smaller). But longer #6 and #8 scale turnouts could prove to be troublesome. One possible work-around on basement empires and super club-sized layouts could be to double-head two of these little motorized gems. That might help "push" or "pull" the stalled unit through the trackage where the roller-spacing doesn't quite span the center rail power gap. David

Thanks David.
Those are the turnouts that cause the problems now. May look into having two together as you suggest.

Ordered from Charles Ro and received today. Definitely cute. The grandkids will love it. Runs well with TMCC. Electronic couplers are great. The power pick-ups are spaced perfectly and pretty wide. No problems on my Gargraves switches, even back to back switches. It'll only do a one car load. Somewhat light and no traction tire. Thanks Dave for the heads up on this.
