How does a poster create a post with a larger image instead of the thumbnail pic that automatically appears when inserted?

That would be a link to a photo from the web versus uploading the photo as an attachment. There is a button where you paste the link similar to how you would post a link to a YouTube video.

You can also post the link to a photo from virtually any website.

I prefer to post the thumbnail and then caption underneath in bold print...
I do this as a courtesy to the site to try to not use as much bandwidth. I usually post pictures uploaded from either my crummy camera or my computer. So I don't link to other sites for pictures. Again, conserving site resources and bandwidth for others.
Hope this is helpful.

Does "linking" scarf up OGF bandwidth? Hadn't heard that before. It certainly preserves OGF image storage space (often an issue on other forums). Serious question...I don't know the answer.

Linking doesnt use our storage. If you upload it does. Bandwidth (amount of data going to and from the server) doesnt have a bearing on our costs.

A link is an address to an external device, therefore this is no storage involved.
An attachment is uploaded to OGF, therefore all those megabytes of a picture are now stored on the server.
Bandwidth (or throughput) is the number of megabits/second that are used in a transaction (upload or download). Bandwidth is provided by your service provider, therefore it will vary from user to user, but has no affect on the cost of OGF doing business.

I see...huh?🙃 Don't sweat it, it's just not something I deal with.
