My highlight of my summer train adventures was stopping on the way back home from our vacation in the Carolina's to Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga TN. I asked my wife if she would be ok in taking alternate route home to stop at the museum so I could ride in the cab Southern 630 Steam Engine. We already had been here this past Spring for day long excursion behind Southern 4501. She was not interested this time, but was ok for me do it. So I checked us into our hotel and allowed my wife to rest while I made my way to the museum for the afternoon cab ride.
The ride was only 6 miles round trip but an hour long as they gave a tour of TVRM engine shops and turned the steam engine around on the a turn table for the ride back. I sat on a seat up high on the front of the tender looking down into the cab of 630. The weather was great that afternoon and not too hot in the cab of the engine! I never been in a cab of operating steam engine before so it was great to see the work that goes into make the engine operate! The following video is my ride in the cab of Southern 630! It is a ride that I greatly enjoyed and always remember!
