Real insulting if you ask me. This was reported on another forum.
While I'm sure Steve of Mr. Muffins trains didn't get a word for word exact quote. I can see Andy saying something like that and comments like this make me want chuck all my MTH stuff. Plus I would argue the Wife application DOES WORK BETTER THAN THE REMOTE a fallacy.

To be honest, I tried the WiFi. More problems then it was worth. Had all kind glitches and a near disaster. I tried WiFi for at least a month and won't go back. The handheld is what I like and feel comfortable with. Odd, components are drying up and those used are no longer made. My understanding was that obsolete meant improvements on what was and would replace those.

Time will tell what will be accepted as the new best thing in the hobby. I have in the past few years purchased two more remotes just to have on hand. I have been using DCS since 2003, sure had some problems that were minor, but otherwise problem free. I’ll keep using them and run my engines until they don’t work. Then worry about it.

Unfortunately the remote is going away and we will have to get over it. That being said, there are better ways of getting your point across. DCS for me has been pretty stable but my layout is modest compared to some so your mileage may vary. The WiFi has been ok for me when I have had a chance to use it but personally I prefer the remote.

WiFi gets used a lot in our home. So far so good for tv and computing devices.I have only tried it once for a train at a LHS. I'm sure over time it would be fine but with a remote I find your fingers or thumbs no were to go instintctively. Could be I've just had a lot of practice with remotes over the years. I spoke with someone at the MTH booth about this and I got the same response regarding their remotes. My reply was to tell him to hire people to build your remotes in house. At the end of the day it would be a good way to go. You have complete control over the product and your customers would be very happy.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet and talk to you at York Marty as well as Superwarp1. Hopefully next time.
Gary.

I've been using the Wifi app on my phone for a few years now. I think there are some big advantages to it but I also miss the tactile touch of the remote. It would be nice if they could combine the best of both worlds. I spend too much time looking down at my phone screen making sure I press the right buttons instead of looking up to watch the trains run.

Don't use DCS, so no issues for me personally. I would guess that many in our hobby prefer using a remote.
In terms of Legacy/TMCC, I have accunluated extra remote controllers for this very reason.

I have only owned and ran one MTH engine. I had issues with it right outta the box. This was a few years back so it was controlled with the remote. I do like a few of the MTH engines and thought about giving them another try. I hear about this remote issue and it does scare me off a bit. I guess if I finally pull the trigger on getting one I'll put in a range extender or an access point.

I've had more bugs using the DCS app than anything. Way to many to list. My teenage son hates using it, I don't use it. The remote is going away according to MTH but there will be so many people complaining.. MTH position on this is just another issue I have with them. I know Mike is getting close to getting out, selling the company, or closing it all together so he can retire to Miami and watch his sucky Dolphins. LOL Anyway Mike refuses to spend any money on new tooling, upgrading the sounds, or continue with the remote. He wants the ease of software over hardware development. I get it but it's the wrong move. His products are bullet proof, and for the most part work but the factories have been making the same things for years so you figured they'd get good at making them.
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant. I will be picking up a new remote and hoping it out last me.

The app works great if the layout is wired properly. I have issues with the app and I’m using an I phone 6 with the generic app download when you upload it.

from what I have read on wifi same issues follow it as the remote I found running mth as conventional was hassle free and I get to run trains period sometimes less is more.
as to comments I would think one would have to be there and heard it first hand not saying it wasn't said just saying sometimes like posts are seen as a different take and meaning.

I've been in the hobby for 11 years now, all our layouts have been ran conventionally. Just a few weeks ago my son and I were talking about DCS. Maybe I will just stay old school. The majority of our locos are MTH to. I do feel for the folks that use remotes. You would think MTH could come up with a new remote.

I am curious to see if a secondary aftermarket version appears. There are many small electronics manufacturers out there that could take up making similar/compatible remotes if they can get around any possible patent restrictions.
I have never tried the WiFi set up as I don’t have a layout yet. I have some newer locomotives that are Lionel with Bluetooth technology. I haven’t tried that either.
As with most new technology, the new forms of control remove the “mechanical” feedback you get through touch. For the most part, you don’t need to look at the remote while you are running with it. An app on a cell phone or other device requires your vision sense to look at the pad, taking your eyes off the focus of your hobby.

Doesn't matter much how the comment was made but I do remember when MTH said keep buying Proto 1s when we release our remote it will work with them. At least when Lionel dropped the TMCC remote they offered a better one as a replacement. I have watched those guys running trains with their phones, guess what, the phone got more attention than the train.

I am not a big fan of running trains with a phone, good to know. I've thought about buying a MTH engine but this might make me change my mind. I dont mind running in conventional, I like to have the option of using a remote.
