I finally put the Menards rail cars on the track and six out of the 12 have at least one truck that does not spin. is that something I can lubricate or is that something that I need to get them to exchange?
What kind of oil do you recommend if it's something I can do myself?

When you say the trucks wont spin, do you mean the wheels in the trucks or the trucks themselves wont pivot/spin around? I am going to assume the later.
If it is the later, trucks usually wont spin all the way around, but they should pivot left to right enough to allow them to navigate curves. If it doesn't even pivot left/right, maybe the truck/coupler is stuck under part of the body on either side. something could also be bent. It shouldn't need to be lubricated. Maybe you can share a photo or video of what you are experiencing.
Either way, don't hesitate to call Menards and get a replacement.

The trucks will rotate but the wheels won't spin. They are frozen solid! How do you call Menards? I cannot find a phone number for them! I've sent them three messages in 2 days and no response . . . It's quite frustrating! When you say the trucks wont spin, do you mean the wheels in the trucks or the trucks themselves wont pivot/spin around? I am going to assume the later. Wilson, check to see that the axles are in the holes in the trucks. Half of my Menards cars had at least one wheel set not seated properly in the truck. It seems that either in packing or shipping the wheels get knocked out of the holes in the inside of the trucks. It'a a very easy fix once you know what to look for. After seating the wheel sets properly all my Menards cars roll very nicely.

Awesome Joe!
I ordered some liberty synthetic oil from Amazon that supposedly is supposed to properly lubricate a train.
Any advice on what to do, or is it pretty self-explanatory once I get to poking and prodding?

It's pretty much self explanatory. When you turn the car over try to turn each wheel set. If a set won't turn look at the axle ends. You shouldn't see the end of the axle. There are holes on the inside of each truck that the ends of the axles slide into. Gently bend the side of the truck just enough so that you can move the axle. When it goes into the hole the wheels will turn freely.

Makes sense!
I'll work on them Sunday when the oil arrives!
I really like those box cars so I hope they will work ok! for the price difference I definitely don't mind doing a little maintenance!

Use very little oil! You shouldn't need to oil the truck connection. Just a tiny drop at each axle point end.

I got my shipment of Liberty Oil yesterday, and I've fixed 2 of the cars. Oiling them was not enough. I had to actually take the trucks off the cars and bend the parts that hold the axle into the truck! There are two little metal pieces that are like a clip around the axle. They were way too tight. As soon as I bent that, they spun freely! Only 1 axle end of all 48 axles were actually out of the side of the truck. But at least 1 axle on 6 cars do not spin! I don't mind fixing the cars, what railroad doesn't have to give maintenance to their cars after they receive them from the manufacturer and before they are given their first load? It's pretty much self explanatory. When you turn the car over try to turn each wheel set. If a set won't turn look at the axle ends. You shouldn't see the end of the axle.
