Hi All,
I am beginning to introduce my 18 month old twins to the joys of spending money on Model Railroading!
I am in love with the Menards track pricing, but I'm not in love with Ross switches pricing!
My goal is to lay the track on the floor and have a reversing loop at each end and a crossing in the middle that the train will wind around and go over.
At this point, I want them to see the train disappear and reappear.
However, what do you recommend for switches? The general recommendation I see online is to use Ross Switches but by doing that the economics makes just using the lionel fast track a better option!
Thanks!
Wilson

I believe Lionel 022 switches will work.

I believe Lionel 022 switches will work. They will. I have Menards track and 5 022 switches. You can find them on ebay and there are some good youtube videos explaining how to repair them and keep them working.

I agree with the recommendation to use 022 switches as long as you are using O31 curves.

Incidentally Wilson T , I had a similar idea as yours for my "Great Corridor Railways" : using two reversing loop, one at each end... My tracks are from Menards (I imported them from USA - I let you imagine the shipping cost ), and I used what I found here in France for the switches : a pair of HORNBY R810/811. I quickly stopped the idea, as my most of my locomotives derailed on them ! My ACE Trains "Blink bonny" : My IVES by Williams #1694 : So I was forced to return to the good old "Carpet Railways" ovals... Maybe you will have better luck than me with the Lionel 022 switches - at least, that's what I wish you for you and your twin childs ! OACE

What's the radius or diameter of Lionel 022 switches? Are there various sizes?

What's the radius or diameter of Lionel 022 switches? Are there various sizes? 022 switches are 31” diameter remote control switches and 042 switches are the same but manual control. To the best of my knowledge the only switches that Lionel made in the O gauge tubular track line were 31” and 72” diameter. I know that K-Line made 42” diameter switches for O27 track but I don’t know if they made 42” diameter switches for O gauge tubular track.
