Besides watching trains on your or your clubs layout, where do you watch trains.
I like watching on YouTube- Distant Signal, Wide World of Trains and OGF's Corner Field Hobby Railfan. I do get to see trains go by my house also. They go slow so they don't make too much noise, and the only time I hear a horn is when someone is on the tracks.

As to where I go most is Madison Ohio. Both NS & CSX mainlines run through their and it's only 20+ minutes north of our business. As to you Joe, that's very very cool, you got a track by your house. I bet you see a variety of trains. Have you ever seen any heritage units from your house?

YouTube live coverage of the Ashland, VA RR station. Since I've taken both the Silver Meteor and Silver Star to Florida a number of times, I'm interested in seeing them now and then. Neither train stops in Ashland, so the passing time can be iffy. Southbound, the Meteor is usually 9:15 pm, and the Star 4:50 pm. Since Covid, the Star only runs FSS, the Meteor MTWT. Before that, they both ran every day. Philadelphia to Ft.Lauderdale the Meteor takes 24 hours, and the Star 28 hours due to a side trip to Tampa. The neat thing is that I have taken a video of me traveling through the town by filming the screen of my laptop. That is a nice addition to my travel "show".

I'm not really a train watcher, though I will stop if it is safe to do so to watch one go by. I just don't make an effort (nor do I have the time to do so) to seek them out.
There are several spots in the area where i could go. I can even hear them go by from home. Maybe I need to try to fit some watching in.

Forgot to mention. I also watch in my nearby small towns and the town I work in. There just isn't as much traffic as in the past. Once in awhile we get the occasional freight train or a unit hauling windmill blades.

No heritage units besides a B&O caboose, but I do work next to the former RAILEX and got to see UP Trains twice a week for many years with various engines including heritage units.

I don't have a place for railfanning here in Florida but when I lived in NY I occasionally worked in New Windsor on the west bank of the Hudson and often watched Conrail and later CSX trains there. When I lived on Long Island I sometimes worked in Yaphank and a few times I got to watch a New York and Atlantic freight switch the Georgia Pacific plant there. I occasionally get to see Florida East Coast freight trains as I'm driving along US 1 here in Vero Beach.

Well, when I can, I like to get to Fostoria and Rochelle. Haven't done that for awhile. I do have a subscription to Railstream that has about 24 sites available including Berea Ohio, close to my old home town of Cleveland, and of course Fostoria! It looks to me like there are always some Virtual Rail sites for free on You Tube. Not too much train activity through town anymore............
