One of the box cars apparently shorted out the board. When I took it apart I found a loose wire on a burnt board.
Anybody out there or know somebody who could fix this car. Are parts available?

Us too. Original set had too many of one car. Finally got it replaced but long after Christmas. Didn’t check it out and when we got the train out this year, it didn’t work.
Have to contact Steve Nelson and see if he has someone who can repair. Have to run it until after Christmas.

Worst case, David, you can but a set of colored LED's from Evans Design and fix it yourself.

What kind of board is it? Just a PCB or is it a specific MTH control board (which I doubt)? Evan Designs sells strings of LEDs that can configured to run on track power or other power sources and a track power module is now available separately. The problem may be matching the strands MTH uses, which I have not seen anywhere else, IF you have to replace the strand - the LEDs themselves might not be burned out. The guy at Evan Designs is extremely helpful and if you consult him he might be able to give you more specific advice or even fabricate a replacement PCB.
Problems with MTH's novelty Christmas lighted cars have been reported now and again since they were issued. The strands themselves are fairly delicate and the spacing of the LEDs on many very close. Fortunately (for me) I have never had to open up any of such cars I have from MTH (the SP passenger cars) so I don't know what they used as a power source.
In recent years, MTH used strands of this kind on a raft of products. But, true to form as far as I am concerned, a look at their replacement parts pages turns up nothing.

I contacted MTH and asked them about fixing it and they are not sure they can at this time, and contact them at a later date when things are More settled. no date suggested.

Dave, try calling JusTrains or Nicholas Smith. They may have repair people. Or maybe Eric can help.
