I have been looking for a Christmas tinplate set for a while now and am not having much luck. I saw this set a couple of years ago and just can't seem to find one for sale. I want this one or something similar in O gauge. Anyone here own this set? Anyone know where I might find one for sale? Can anyone recommend another similar set that would be easy to find for sale?

That is very difficult to find! The MTH catalog number is 11-5505-1 or 11-5505-0 (Without proto-sound). York may be your best bet. Good luck!

I agree with you about York but with covid19 who knows when that will happen. Thought I might get lucky with someone here who could help.

What a neat set! Very clear why they are desirable and hard to find. Good luck with the hunt.

I know it is not the same, but the MTH tinplate Christmas freight set seems to be easier to find.

I don't know.... I've been looking for the Christmas Distant control set for a while... A guy in the club has one and won't part with it.... The search continues...

What do you guys think of this set. I think it is very nice but I still kind of like the other one better.

I am not used to seeing an engine that looks like a caboose. Is it just me that thinks it looks a little odd.

They were modeled after the early electrics of the day. Like the NYC S1 and S2:

Beautiful train. Glad I was sitting down. I would have to do some digging to know if that price was good or not. It sounds like the train is new old stock by the way he described it. Thanks for sharing R.J.

The O gauge tinplate Christmas set is pretty sharp looking as well. I would be tempted to get that one and then watch for the passenger set to pop up on ebay after the holidays or next summer. Then you will have both sets. Mike

Update. I got a message from someone on another forum that he knows someone that has this set for sale. I texted them and am waiting for a reply. I'm hoping it pans out. Will update again when I know more.
