RJ, that is a really nice size for a layout.

Unfortunately my house project list has grown. I attempted to reconfigure the dishwasher drain. I actually had it all set but wanted to improve it. The old galvanized pipe had other ideas. House projects that need to be done - summer room beam job finished, install door in place of window in summer room, re-install heat register in summer room, paint summer room, floor tile finished through summer room and entryway, new drain pipe put in from second floor bathroom to basement, redo dishwasher drain to new drain pipe, redo kitchen sink drain to new drain pipe, new tub and surround in main bath, remove walls and build out new ensuite off master bedroom (currently there's a toilet and small vanity in the area), install kitchen backsplash, redo kitchen cabinets formica top and paint the front porch. I believe that's it.... As you can see I either need to hire a contractor or someone to finish my layout. *"summer room" was our only downstairs bedroom. I took out the wall that was along the hallway and put up a beam. Relocated the light switch and one outlet. The only window was in the wall where the outside deck is. So I will be removing the window and installing a door to get to the deck/pool area. I already took out the hot water register that ran along the wall. I plan to install it on another wall after the tiling is finished.

RJ, Yikes!! Yes one project can lead to several others quickly!! Hire a contractor and you build the layout. He can tackle the not fun stuff, and you do the fun stuff. Life is too short.

RJ- Best advice my Dad gave me... Hire all the stuff out that you do NOT like to do. Work on the layout and have fun. I missed this thread. You are doing a great job! Keep up the work and keep us posted.

Wow it has been quite some time since I was in this thread!
My project list listed above is mostly finished. A few of the projects are now on hold until next summer. One thing not listed was getting 4 doors installed plus the door for the summer room. One heat register has been installed in the summer room. The other one should be done this Sunday.
Now on to the layout and like my forum name indicates - "can't decide never finished"..... I have decided to remove my duck under bridge. Looking at drawing above of current layout the bridge went from the 5 foot area to the long 3 foot wide run. My plan is to build a trestle bridge and curve my main loop around the edge where the 5 foot is written. The middle of the long 3 foot run will get pushed against the wall. I will probably need to modify the end along the short wall and some of my wiring. This will have a couple of advantages. 1: no ducking under 2: longer main loop
I'll try to whip up a drawing when I get home.

Good plan, get rid of the duckunder for sure.

Eliminating the duck under is a great idea RJ.

I recorded a video today of my mess ... I mean traincave. I was going to post it but the video recorded sideways and I can't figure out how to turn it. I recorded it with my phone and was holding it horizontal. Someone told me the video would be full screen if I recorded it this way
After recording the video I was able to get some work done. I removed the duck under bridge. The rest was clean up.

Layout construction can be very messy work.

Looks like you have some work ahead of you? But you have lots o room there RJ. I try and get about a half hour a nite to work on the layout of what I am doing. Sometimes it goes to an hour but if you can even get 15-20 minutes of work it adds up and before you know it you will get stuff done. That’s what I did when wiring up the town lights, buildings etc. and now doing my ballast. Sometimes you don’t feel like doing it but push yourself for at least 15 minutes and you’ll see how much gets done. And sometimes you just gotta give it a break. Good luck.👍

Layout construction can be very messy work. I just wish it was progress. I just kept stacking newly bought stuff on the table, bar and layout. Planning to have the table cleared by this weekend. Still need to come up with or build shelves to store my rolling stock and engines. That would clear up a lot of it.

I agree building a new layout makes a very big mess. I have a mess in the basement mess in my shed and a even bigger mess in my garage, Had to put painting walls and floor on hold till spring paint fumes make me and my wife very sick. Even tried to buy paint that had low fumes. So painting will start in warm weather when door and windows can be open. So we will keep building layout cause I want to run my trains.
