Reading that Jim Barrett passed today. A great loss for model railroading. Legendary. Always pleasant and helpful. Condolences for his family. He will be missed.

Sad to hear of Jim's passing. His craftsmanship and "know how" were a big help to many in the hobby. His presence in the hobby will be missed.

Terrific trainman. I have a collection of Jim's videos and have referenced them many times. I like how everyone has said "very pleasant, I never met Jim, but his videos reflex exactly that. Bless his soul.

I am stunned, saw him last York, and he looked great.
Jim was a great guy, I hung out with him some at York. I will miss him, and I will never forget him.
See you on the other side, Jim.

Sorry to read about Jim's passing. I talked with Jim many times at York, and he was definitely one of the good guys in this hobby. Despite the "celebrity status" associated with his Backshop column all those years, he was always a down-to-Earth guy who was willing to help in any way possible. His entire garage and basement were probably more organized than the small desktop in my office. The hobby really lost a talented buddy today.
