My entire layout will be revamped after Christmas and will go from ho to O gauge with mostly trains from the MPC era and some post war like the 726, and 736. Also Menards cars will play a big part on the layout. Although the layout will not be very large I intend to have fun and run trains from the time I started in Lionel trains.

I’ve got a couple of engines from that era that I enjoy. I’m also a. Huge fan of Menards rolling stock. Best deal in the hobby!
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

While I run traditional post-war size trains it's all modern, mostly Railking with PS3. Some of my freight cars are from the MPC era but the locos are all modern era. The reason I chose DCS command control is so I can run 2 trains on the lower mainline. This way I can run 3 trains at a time. With conventional I could only run 2 trains, one on the small upper mainline and one on the large lower mainline.

I run everything from Pre War Lionel to LionChief Plus
No Legacy, but throw some TMCC in there for good measure including my one of a kind (that I'm aware of) 2026 TMCC Equipped locomotive......

I have lot's of MPC. Stay with the better engines and they are just as good as the PW ones. You don't even have to pay big bucks for a 726 or 736 MPC made some nice ones and in real road names. Keep them lubed and they will last just as long as their ancestors. Just one note though. The MPC GP 7/9 are lite weight and use rubber tires. Not near as good as Magnets. They were also prone to off set drive wheels that make them wobble.

I'm going to stick to conventional. I have run tmcc, legacy, and Dcs in the past and had fun. But right now I want to go back to where I started in 1969 on the hobby I have enjoyed for the past 74 years. But in 1969 at the age of 24 I finally had some money of my own and the next year in 1970 Lionel was sold to MPC and a new era began. The following years MPC made some wonderful trains that I bought and enjoyed. Now that I'm 74 I want to go back to simpler times. Rembering the times I had with my brother who I miss dearly and had so much fun with.

If I had designed my layout with 3 tracks as I should have (hindsight is 20/20) I would have run my trains conventionally. I don't run scale size trains because I want to recapture the spirit of those Lionel trains I had in the 1950s. I'm an only child so in my case it's my dad that I ran trains with.
