I expect the tooling to sit for a while, a year or more. Then the Chinese will melt it for scrap metal.

"What matters for us train guys is what happens to the tooling"
Unless there is a business that wants to work with the folks that "have control" over them, I guess they are useless. Doubt the tooling is sitting on the shelves in Maryland. That's exactly correct Brian. The tooling is somewhere in the orient. Only time will tell what happens there. I wonder about that too. Based on what I know about oriental manufacturers the tooling itself won’t ever leave whatever countries it’s in but the rights to the designs might be a different matter. Some MTH engines, like the Erie Triplex for example or some of the UP turbines, might be useful additions to Lionel’s Legacy stable even though there would have to be sound and control files created. Since MTH appears to be selling out right to the bare walls it might be open to a deal on some of its designs. My sense is however that Mike Wolf will spike any deal that doesn’t involve very big bucks.

When there is no buyer, liquidate and get out. Talk about continuing something is cheap; actions speak far louder than words. We wouldn’t buy MTH anything that might require future service/parts at this time. We have DCS and plenty of extra stuff but intend to look at Legacy and have non-MTH plans ready to put in place. The extra DCS stuff that is new will likely be pretty easy to sell in the future if new production ceases.
It will be interesting to see where the tooling lands. I know nothing about the life of tooling but there sure has not been much new in some time. Most of it has to be old and well used.
